With her recent reappearance on social media through her Instagram, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, took to the platform to share some tragic news. Markle lost her longtime buddy and dog, Guy.
She made a video that she posted on Instagram as a tribute to the dog, and in it you can see Archie and Lilibet, her children, making a rare appearance.
More about Guy
Markle adopted the rescue beagle in 2015 in Canada. He used to be in a kill shelter in Kentucky with a few days to live. For Markle, when she saw him, it was love at first sight, and she took him under her caring wings.
Why she named him Guy
Back in the dog rescue, they referred to the beagle as “the little guy” due to him being so small and frail at the time. Markle liked the ring of the name and decided to name him “Guy.” Apart from Prince Harry, Guy was one of the few who were able to steal Markle’s heart.
He was everywhere with her
Markle used to share about Guy on her former Instagram account back in the day. Additionally, he was with the Duchess on The Tigs and Suits, and every moment in between. He was with her during her engagement, marriage, and her journey with motherhood.
Guy suffered an accident
Markle opened up about a tragic accident the dog went through which led to him undergoing multiple surgeries over the course of several months. Doctors even said that Guy would never walk again but Markle and Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick never gave up.
Markle is grieving
In her Instagram post, The Duchess of Sussex hoped that everyone would see why she fell in love with Guy in her new series. Furthermore, she wrote that she cried “too many tears to count.” The death weighed on her heavily, and rightfully so.
She cried a lot, but “That’s okay”
In the Instagram post, Markle described her state, saying: “I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too.”
The grief didn’t stop her from expressing gratitude
Markle sent out her thanks to Dr. Fitzpatrick and his team at Queen West Animal Hospital in TO. Moreover, she thanked her friends, family, and community for loving Guy. Most importantly, she thanked Guy for the “years of unconditional love.”
Archie made an appearance

In the tribute video, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, can be seen walking with Archie, his son, six, who is holding Guy on a leash, enjoying their walk together.
The video has another footage of Archie saying: “He’s going to fall,” seated in the car with his mother and dog, who reassures him that the dog is safe.
And so did Lilibet

In another footage, Lilibet, their daughter, three, can be seen held by her mother, Markle, and surrounded by the family dogs on a picnic blanket in what seems to be a fun mother-daughter picnic time. The dogs can be seen peacefully napping, too.
Lilibet has her grandma’s genes

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex tend to keep their kids away from the spotlight. However, they always brag that Lilibet has inherited Princess Diana’s genes. Prince Harry once expressed how happy he was that the Spencer genes had been passed onto his kids.
