It’s time to take a walk to remember down memory lane…
Mandy Moore just treated A Walk to Remember fans with a beautiful rendition of “Only Hope,” 18 years after the movie’s release!
This is Mandy Moore.
These days, you might know her most from the tearjerker show, This Is Us , which just wrapped up its fourth season .
But back in the ’90s and early ’00’s, she was best-known for her thriving movie career.
She starred in several hit movies, such as The Princess Diaries , How to Deal , and Saved .
She was one of Hollywood’s “It Girls” during this time!
But nothing was as memorable as her performance in Nicholas Sparks’, ‘A Walk to Remember.’
In the romantic tearjerker, she played Jamie Sullivan, the town’s known “good girl” who was also the pastor’s daughter.
Through a series of surprising events, she ended up falling in love with her high school’s bad boy, Landon Carter (played by Shane West).
Sadly, this happened right around the time that she was battling a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Mandy didn’t just act in the film.
As a singer, she got to perform several of the songs’s on the film’s soundtrack.
This included “Cry,” “Someday We’ll Know,” and “It’s Gonna Be Love.”
She also sang a gorgeous cover of Switchfoot’s 1999 “Only Hope.”
Covering the band’s***t song ended up being super nerve-wrecking for the singer.
In 2017, she revealed the reason behind this on Twitter.
“I loved the original version by the band Switchfoot so I was bit nervous to record it. Once we got to filming the scene, I was ready,” she wrote.
Turns out, those nerves were all for nothing since the song is still memorable, 18 years later.
Moore and her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, even recently performed a rendition of the beautiful song for fans while at home in isolation.
“Hope everyone’s hanging in there, hope you had a great weekend,” Moore said, starting off the 49-minute Instagram live concert that was held in the couple’s living room.
The couple has always bonded over their shared love for music, as he’s a singer for the rock band, Dawes.
Forty minutes into the video, Moore gets to the iconic track.
“This is a song I’ve song one time, almost 20 years ago,” Moore says to her husband. “I think I’ve sung it once in concert, in the Philippines.”
“Well, then I’m honored,” he husband says, happy to sing it with her then.
“This has been requested a lot and I’m going to try and do my best to make it work, but bear with me because I don’t really know it,” she says.
Fans online loved the gorgeous rendition of the song.
“Was anyone else SOBBING last night listening to @TheMandyMoore singing only hope in instagram live?” another added.
They seriously couldn’t handle the nostalgic feels.
She sounds just as beautiful and transported us back to a beautiful time.
The timing for Moore’s concert couldn’t be more perfect, as she just released her first album in *10* years last month (!!).
Her first single off the album, titled “Silver Landings, is “Save a Little for Yourself.”
Moore revealed what inspired the self-love anthem previously to ‘People.’
“Sometimes writing a song feels like giving myself the advice I know I need the most and it’s often the hardest to heed,” Moore said .
“It makes the song almost a mantra of sorts — something I know I’ll continue learning because it bears repeating.”
She continued: “‘Save a Little for Yourself’ is sort of the other half of a love song that we don’t always talk about or acknowledge.”
We’re so happy the actress has gone back to her singing roots!
Her recent rendition of “Only Hope” is giving us all the hope we need during this difficult time.
