Mandy Moore has said that all she wants to say when it comes to her former marriage with musician Ryan Adams.
The pair were married from 2009 to 2013, ending on unamicable terms.
The This Is Us star recently slammed an interviewer who canceled on the actress for refusing to speak about the abuse she endured with her ex-husband.
Come see her powerful statement.
This is Mandy Moore.
If you don’t know who she is, which rock have you been hiding under?
She’s a singer and actress, most known for her movie roles in A Walk to Remember , Saved , and The Princess Diaries .
Most recently, she’s taken on the role of Rebecca Pearson on NBC’s ever-popular (and emotional) TV series, This Is Us .
While the actress is currently married (and expecting her first child!) with her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, she was married before.
This was to musician Ryan Adams, who she was married to for six years after getting hitched in 2009.
Controversy has followed Adams since their divorce.
There have been multiple claims that the musician mistreated women through emotional abuse and manipulation.
This includes allegedly dangling career opportunities at the same time that he was pursuing female artists for s*x.
While the This Is Us star has been private about her marriage to Adams, she has gotten candid about a few difficult subjects.
“I was living my life for him. … I had no sense of self,” she said on Marc Maron’s *W*F* podcast in 2019.
“I felt like I was drowning. It was so untenable and unsustainable and it was so lonely. I was so sad. I was lonely with him,” she said .
“Music was a point of control for him,” she said, according to the *The New York Times*.
This was also how he allegedly manipulated a 14-year-old bass player into engaging in graphic texts in 2013.
In fact, during one of their Skype calls, he reportedly exposed himself.
Given these controversial timeline of events, it makes perfect sense why Moore refuses to comment on her marriage to Adams.
While a lot of publications respect that, one unnamed publication recently didn’t.
Mandy posted a screenshot from a writer to her Instagram Stories, showing that they decided to cancel their interview with her because she declined to talk about Adams.
They wrote that while they “completely understand” Mandy’s decision to not discuss her ex-husband, it would be “wrong” for them to proceed with the interview.
They also wrote that the piece would be on Mandy’s life and career, with her former relationship playing a big role in how it impacted these two things.
Mandy shared her thoughts on the situation, writing that her “blood is still boiling.”
“This is from a publication who reached out eager to do a comprehensive piece on my life and career,” Mandy wrote.
She added that there are “countless interviews” where they could have pulled information about her former marriage from.
“That story is over and there’s nothing more to say,” she said.
“Any comment I make about said experience becomes clickbait and gives them the energy and time they seek and have already stolen from too many for too long,” Moore continued.
She then called the interview cancellation “so out of touch with the cultural discussion around abusive relationships.”
And obviously, you can’t blame Moore for having these reactions considering the intense trauma she went through.
This is something that crosses her boundaries as it is “directly linking someone’s value back to their abuser.”
“The refusal to interview someone unless they agree to relive that trauma publicly? No thank you.”
She concluded her post with this: “I am about to give birth any second and I’m not afraid to draw healthy boundaries. Bye.”
In case that point wasn’t clear, she made this follow-up post.
We’re so proud of her for speaking up against this important subject.
