While some people are thrilled to fly in planes, others see it as their worst nightmare. You never know what you will get: lousy food, lost luggage, or annoying passengers; it only takes one thing to ruin your trip.
This post on Reddit is a great example of this; OP started by saying that he was going to fly for about an hour and a half across Europe and had chosen a window seat for no extra charge over the 60 Euros the ticket costs.
OP explained that you could also pay another 20 Euros to have extra legroom, but he didn’t feel it was necessary as long as he was seated at the window. It was a large plane, so there were three seats next to each other: the middle, the one in the aisle, and the window seat.
Everything was going great until they finally took off, and people started to recline their seats. OP said he didn’t mind that the person in the front did this and did the same, but he was stopped by the person seated in the middle behind him.
The guy that stopped him was about 6’8, while OP said he is 5’10. He described that he was very tall and clearly uncomfortable in his seat, but he was also taking up other passengers’ space. The man told OP not to recline his seat because it would inconvenience him.
The Man Was Taking Everyone Else’s Space
OP Said That The Man Was Being Selfish
Though OP accepted not to recline his seat, he spoke his mind to the man, he told him that the next time he traveled, he should make sure not to bother other passengers by getting an aisle seat or paying extra, to which the man responded that he didn’t have 20 Euros to spare.
OP didn’t buy his excuse because they were destined to arrive at a very expensive city and pointed out that aisle seats are free of charge. He also called him selfish and defended the flight attendants after the man told him he was used to getting a better seat whenever he flew, but this wasn’t the case. In the end, their smiled sarcastically at each other and ended their interaction.
Users in the comments were surprised about how chill OP was about the situation. Most of them wrote that they wouldn’t have done the same because they needed to recline their seats to avoid neck or back pain.
On the other hand, many comments talked about how OP had every right to recline his seat, as any other passenger, and that it wasn’t his problem if the other guy was uncomfortable. Others talked about how airlines should improve their facilities and try to make the seats as comfortable as possible to avoid this type of situation.
