We all have bad hair days, right? I definitely have a few at least a couple of times a week. No kidding. But what if you were born with a rare condition that makes your hair virtually uncombable.
Yes, that’s right. A little girl in Australia has been facing this issue all her life and it hasn’t stopped her one bit.

When Shilah Madison was born her parents didn’t notice anything different.
But after a few months, her hair started growing straight up and didn’t flatten down at all.
Then people started commenting on the little girl’s appearance, asking her parents what was wrong with her hair.
Some even made comments that came off as rude and insensitive.
Others went as far as even touching the little girl’s hair without asking for her parents’ permission.
That really annoyed her parents, as it would bother any caring parent.
Some people even took pictures of Shilah without her parents’ permission.
Which would then prompt one of her parents to ask people to kindly delete the photos.
Initially, her parents tried different techniques to try to calm her hair down but in the end they embraced that it was just part of her identity.
That’s really the best attitude to have.
As Shilah got older, her hair started growing but always seemed to stop at a certain point.
It would just snap off at the root and be very fragile.
Often, her parents spent hours trying to take knots from her hair to no avail.
Many tears later they discovered that having Shilah sleep on a silk pillowcase was best.
Other than dealing with brushing issues, this awesome little girl has embraced her condition with gusto.
She even made light of it by saying she should be called “fuzzy.”
Having Shilah around other kids in daycare has made her even more confident about herself.
She’s always been quite sassy and told other kids she was unique and special.
People have compared Shilah to Doc Brown from “Back to the Future” or even Albert Einstein.
But this hasn’t made the family upset one bit. In fact just the opposite.
Some have recommended that the parents take Shilah to the doctor but they never actually thought it was necessary.
After all, it’s just hair and therefore it’s not a big deal.
It was only during a visit to the hospital that the parents found out Shilah had “uncombable hair syndrome.”
They were told it was caused by a gene mutation.
Apparently, UHS is caused by a gene mutation that involves silvery blonde or straw-colored hair that stands up from the scalp and can’t be combed flat.
How interesting.
Shilah is only one of approximately 100 people in the world who has this mutation.
Her mom now runs an Instagram to show people how Shilah rocks her unique condition.
Shilah shares her experiences with over 14,000 Instagram followers.
Through her account, Shilah is helping to spread awareness about this unique condition.
She’s also inspiring people to embrace what makes them different.

Wynter Seymour is another little girl who has made headlines because of her experiences with uncombable hair syndrome.

Like Shilah, Wynter’s hair easily becomes matted and tangled.
It can also be quite painful when she tries to brush it. Wynter’s mom has said they’ve tried numerous products to try and tame it.
Interestingly, when Wynter was born she had a full head of jet-black hair.
It began falling out and her blonde hair with a wiry texture started coming in.
However, like Shilah, Wynter is embracing this unique condition.
Wynter and her sisters are competitive dancers and love dressing up in fabulous costumes.
Wynter says that she likes her unique hair and that it matches her personality.
