The heartwrenching preliminary autopsy report
While Payne’s death was ruled out as suicide and foul play was suspected, the preliminary report has shed light on Payne’s state of mind and what happened during his final moments. The long-awaited result? Payne’s death was due to “multiple traumas,” according to the report.
What happened during the fall
The “multiple traumas” led to “internal and external bleeding” following the tragic third-floor fall. Forensic experts came to the conclusion that “the 25 injuries described in the autopsy” are consistent with those caused by a fall from a height.
No “defensive type” wounds
The preliminary report also concluded that there were no “defensive type” injuries, the ones found were “vital and produced at the same time as each other.” Thus, the involvement of third parties in the tragic death has been ruled out, according to the Argentinian outlet La Nacion.
Why suicide has been ruled out
On November 7, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office released a report that revealed that traces of “alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants” had been found in Payne’s system. They decided that the late superstar “did not know what he was doing and could not understand it.”
Could have been a substance-induced “psychotic episode”
The November 7 report also concluded that the star was in a state of “semi- or total unconsciousness,” as there were no signs of maintaining “a reflexive posture to protect himself in the fall.” Therefore, they believed that his fall might have been due to a substance-induced “psychotic episode.”
What the investigators determined
According to ABC News, the prosecutor’s office determined: “This situation would also rule out the possibility of a conscious or voluntary act on the part of the victim since, in the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing and could not understand it.”
The five arrested in connection to Payne’s death
Five people were arrested in connection to the late singer’s death; Roger Nores, Braian Paiz, hotel employee Ezequiel Pereyra, hotel security Esteban Reynaldo Grassi, and manager Gilda Martín. They were suspected to have had a hand in the deceased superstar’s death.
The judge is on it
Judge Laura Bruinard ordered the review of the CCTV footage of the late singer’s fall. This order came eight weeks after Payne’s sudden death. Authorities are currently examining the video which had previously not been shared with the public.
What is awaiting the suspects
The judge is contemplating pressing charges against two of the five suspects who are hotel employees. One of the two suspects was the head receptionist who raised the alarm over the star’s erratic behavior prior to his untimely death.
The rest are not off the hook
The remaining suspects are still due to be interrogated. The charges they might face range from supplying Payne with drugs to neglect resulting in death. A recent legal document going back to December 9, classified the CasaSur Palermo employees as “imputados,” meaning “people charged.” The charges were not specified.
