I had no idea Leonardo DiCaprio was into recreating some of his most iconic movies in real life, but here we are.
In true Titanic style, Leonardo DiCaprio actually rescued a man lost at sea. Here’s what happened.
So…where did you spend your holidays?
Because Leonardo DiCaprio spent his in St. Barts.
DiCaprio, 45, and his girlfriend, Camila Marrone, 22, were vacationing with a group of friends on Leo’s yacht over the holiday break.
I am not at all jealous, btw.
A distress call came in.
On December 30th, a distress call came over the radio: a man had fallen off a yacht.
The man, who was apparently a crewman aboard a Club Med cruise, fell overboard near St Martin.
Things did not look good for the crewman.
According to The Sun, a source said that the captain put the man’s odds of survival at, “one in a billion — like winning the lottery twice.”
So, maybe he should go buy that lottery ticket, huh?
Leo leapt into action.
He and his group abandoned their vacation to join the emergency search efforts immediately.
He diverted course to head towards the man’s last location, even though he was an hour away.
To make matters more complicated…
A huge rainstorm was about to close in.
Leo and his team had until the sun fell to safely find the lost crewman. It wasn’t going to be an easy search.
It was almost dark when he was found…by Leo.
Unbelievably, it was Leo’s yacht that eventually spotted the unnamed man treading water.
By then, he’d been in the water for 11 hours. He was severely dehydrated, but very much alive.
The captain praised Leo and his crew.
The captain of the Club Med yacht revealed to Just Jared that Leo and his friends were, “the only responders, and his only chance of survival, despite being hours away.”
You can imagine how the internet reacted.
Memes…so many memes. As far as the eye can see.
A ton of people were (rightly) impressed by Leo’s actions, and proud of him for saving a life.
Others were proud, but saw an opportunity.
Like this person.
Maybe I laughed out loud when I read this tweet. Don’t worry about it.
Shoutout to Leo for finally redeeming himself. We can end all the “they would have both fit” debates now.
This is…an incredibly response.
In an unexpected twist, curry queen eschewed the obvious Titanic reference for something with a little more nuance: The Great Gatsby .
Hats off to you, curry queen. Hats frickin’ off.
Exactly.
You’re overboard, treading water, dehydrated and thinking that this might be the end.
And then suddenly…over the horizon…a yacht approaches. You’re pulled on deck, and Leonardo DiCaprio greets you.
That would be wild.
But honestly? Leo isn’t the first to do something like this.
In fact, he’s following in some prestigious footsteps.
Harrison Ford regularly takes his helicopter out to rescue stranded hikers.
Now that’s what I call putting your money where your mouth is, guys.
He’s rescued a ton of people.
He made headlines in 2001 when he took his helicopter out to Yellowstone National Park to look for 13-year-old Boy Scout, Cody Clawson.
He was lost in a forest at the time.
Han Solo to the rescue.
“‘The pilot turned round and said, ‘Good morning’. The way he said it reminded me so much of his role of Han Solo in Star Wars,” Cody told The Daily Mail in 2018.
Can you imagine?
“Then I was like, ‘Oh my God, Han Solo has just rescued me, how cool is that?’ I thought I was delirious at first but then realized I wasn’t dreaming.”
