As you might have probably already noticed, the Black Lives Matter movement has really been getting some traction lately — and rightfully so.
So, what better time for white people to acknowledge their privilege and make a conscious effort to advocate for equality?
And that’s exactly what Lena Dunham is doing! She is not afraid to get candid about the matter!
If you have ever seen the HBO series called *Girls*, there is a fairly good chance that you love it.
What can I say? It is a great show.
No two ways about it.
But what many people don’t realize, is that before the show ever came to fruition, it was simply an idea on paper that Lena Dunham pitched to the network.

And Lena has actually admitted that even though her pitch was lackluster, the network still accepted it.
According to *Entertainment Tonight*, Lena’s original pitch was only a page and a half long, had no structure, characters, or plot.

I’m genuinely curious what this pitch actually consisted of if not all of those things?
As we now know, *Girls* is an American comedy-drama television series created by and starring Lena Dunham, of course, and is executive produced by Judd Apatow.
A dream team if you ask me!
The series follows the perfect recipe for a successful sitcom: Four friends going through life in New York City.

But in this case, all four friends are — as the title of the show suggests — girls.
But at any rate, fans saw this as the peprfect example of white privilege, as people of color don’t have quite as easy of a time breaking into Hollywood.

And when Lena saw her name trending on Twitter over it, she decided to take the opportunity to recognize how easy she has had it.
“Whenever I find out I’m trending, I have to immediately check if I’m alive!,” she tweeted.

She explained that if she feels like she’s in a position to start an open, constructive conversation on Twitter about an important cause, then she will.
“Then, I try and see if there’s a constructive dialogue to have on Twitter,” she continued.

“Often there isn’t, but today there really WAS .”
At which point, she admitted that she has had a relatively simple, resistance-free journey to success in show business.
She said that the system always favors white people over people of color.
“It actually wasn’t a dialogue – it was just me agreeing that the Hollywood system is rigged in favor of white people,” she wrote .
“And that my career took off at a young age with relative ease,” she went on, confessing that for a long time she didn’t actually know what privilege was.

“I wasn’t able to recognize because I also didn’t know what privilege was.”
“The past ten years have been a series of lessons,” she said.

But she explained that the lesson now is something very crucial: Essentially, advocating for the Black Lives Matter movement until a change is cultivated.
It’s important to do.
“The lesson now? Sit down. Shut up, unless it’s to advocate for change for Black people,” she wrote.
“Listen. Make art in private for awhile- no one needs your book right now lady . “
“Give reparations widely. Defund the police. Rinse & repeat,” she concluded.

And naturally, fans applauded her for using her platform to not only acknowledge white privilege, but also advocate for black lives.
This person chimed in, explaining that she is a person of color, herself, and was personally hired by Lena Dunham as a TV writer.
She has nothing but wonderful, positive things to say her, and thanked her for speaking up.
What do you think of Lena Dunham’s response to the claims that HBO picked up her show, *Girls*, because she is white?
We stan a queen who speaks out against racial injustices!
