Actress Kristin Davis who played Charlotte York on the iconic HBO series S*x and the City was brought to tears by seeing her late friend and co-star, Willie Garson in the pilot. The actor who played Stanford Blatch sadly passed away in September 2021.
Davis cried during the first episode of her podcast Are You a Charlotte?, where she takes listeners back through her experience on the show.
She had to cut to a commercial break
On the first episode of her new podcast, Kristin Davis had to cut to a commercial break after seeing Willie Garson on screen brought her to tears.
Garson had starred on the show as Carrie’s – played by Sarah Jessica Parker – friend Stanford Blatch.
Davis got choked up seeing him on screen
Davis said, “Oh my God, I forgot Willie! Oh my God, when Willie comes on the screen — I might cry, sorry, but, you know he’s so young.”
“And he’s so beautiful and I’d really, I’d forgotten, you know? Sorry,” the actress said, getting choked up with tears.
She had to pause the show
During Garson’s first scene with Parker on the pilot, Davis paused the screen, saying, “I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ We were just little, little babies, you know? And he’s so funny.”
Reminiscing on the past, the actress began to get teary.
Davis’ voice started shaking
“And their relationship is so great, and they had been friends for so long, so I love it, that it’s on camera,” The actress added, talking about Garson and Parker.
Davis sniffled and her voice started shaking as she admitted, “I have to stop just for a little second.”
She returned to the discussion after a break
After a short break, she came back to talk about the Garson and Parker’s scene further. She said, “I was thinking about the scene that Willie and Sarah are in together and he’s telling her, like, ‘Don’t go talk to him.’ And she’s like, ‘No. No. I’m doing research.’ And she’s so seductive and funny and, like, her eyes.”
Garson was at her first screen test for Charlotte
Davis recalled that Garson was at her first testing to play Charlotte on the show. This helped ease her nerves immensely.
“Willie Garson was there, and I knew Willie already. I had met Willie in Vancouver probably the year before, and I loved him so much,” she recalled.
She was glad to see a familiar face
“So thank god he was there, because I had to wait for hours before I could go in and read,” Davis added, recalling her first test day for the show.
“We’re there for so long that I’d be nervous, and then I’d get un-nervous,” she said on the way he’d ease her nerves.
He would say something funny to help
As they both had to wait for hours to attend their individual readings, Garson would help calm Davis down.
“And then Willie would tell me a funny story, made me laugh, and I’d be un-nervous and then I get nervous again,” she added.
He stayed with her for five hours at the audition
“I go in. I read. Then I go back out. This is how testing worked. You have to wait and then they’re gonna come back out and give you notes or tell you to go home or whatever. It’s very stressful. And Willie is just like, ‘Oh my god. I’ve had it.’ You know, he’s so funny,” Davis shared.
Davis has also previously gotten emotional over him
After Garson passed from pancreatic cancer, Davis appeared on The Tamron Hall Show. There, she also broke into tears remembering her friend.
The actress had shared, “I’m still not together about it, obviously. It’s hard, because we were working the whole time, and we didn’t know when we started how sick he was. He didn’t want us to know.”
