Kirk Cameron, the actor best known for his role on the hit ’80s sitcom *Growing Pains*, is gaining a whole new reputation these days.
In case you missed it, the 50-year-old was slammed on social media last month for hosting massive caroling events in “protest” of California’s stay-at-home orders.
“We’re offering a chance for people to come sing songs of hope — and that’s exactly what people want to be doing at Christmas time,” he told FOX news in response to the backlash.
“This is the land of the free and home of the brave and there are thousands and thousands of people in our community who would rather not suffer in isolation and come out to sing and express their gratitude… we believe there is immunity in community but there is desolation in isolation and I want to give people hope,” he claimed .
With the Christmas season wrapped up, Kirk needed another holiday for his super spreader events. Naturally, he landed on New Year’s Eve.
In a series of Instagram posts, Kirk defended his decision to gather hundreds of people at Point Mugu State Park in Ventura County, California, this past NYE.
“We prayed and sang songs of thankfulness at Point Mugu beach in Cali, admiring the beauty of God’s masterpiece in the western sky,” he began .
“As the Master Artist, He paints with distilled water and fractured light on a canvas of thin air. And as for the reason behind our outlawed, outdoor singing, according to NeuroscienceNews.com, a study at Mayo Clinic concluded, ‘Music has always been a refuge for people during the most difficult times, and it can certainly help during the COVID-19 pandemic.'”
He continued: “Faith. Obedience. Praise. We agreed this is our New Year’s strategy to bring Heaven’s blessings to Earth in 2021.”
“If you want to wear masks, we welcome masks,” Kirk can be heard saying in a clip shared to his Instagram Story, as per *People*.
He continued : “If you want to spread out with your family, there’s plenty of room here. Remember, you’re in charge of your healthcare. Use wisdom, common sense, and good judgment with that.”
Despite the invitation to do so, very few attendees wore masks or practiced social distancing.
