Fans all over the world tuned in for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah on Sunday night. The pair set the record straight about a host of accusations, including the rumor that Meghan Markle made sister-in-law Kate Middleton cry in the week leading up to the wedding.
Now, the Duchess of Sussex is setting the record straight, saying it was actually the other way around.
Over the past four years, there have been countless harmful accusations spread about Meghan Markle.
One of the most notorious rumors was that she made sister-in-law Kate Middleton cry in the week leading up to the wedding.
On Sunday night, Meghan was able to give her side of the story and explain what really went down.
“The reverse happened,” Meghan revealed, according to People . “And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something.”
She confirmed that the source of the conflict was the flower girl dresses.
“A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something. Yes, the issue was correct about flower girl dresses.”
In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Meghan was hit with a barrage of negative stories from her own family members in the press.
“I thought in the context of everything else going on in the days leading to the wedding, it didn’t make sense to not doing what everyone else was doing, which was being supportive,” Meghan eplained.
However, the duchess made it clear she doesn’t hold it against her.
“And she did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone, right, to just take accountability for it.”
Meghan continued: “She apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing.”
“I actually think it’s — I don’t think it’s fair to her to get into the details of that because she apologized,” she added. “And I’ve forgiven her.”
According to Meghan, she didn’t share the story to be “disparaging” to her sister-in-law, but rather because she hoped that Kate “would have wanted that corrected.”
“I think a lot of it that was fed into by the media,” Meghan added.
“I would hope that she would have wanted that corrected, and maybe in the same way that the palace wouldn’t let anybody else negate it, they wouldn’t let her, because she’s a good person,” she said.
Meghan explained that the hard part of the public reports of a feud was being blamed for “something that not only I didn’t do but what happened to me.”
“What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do but what happened to me and the people that were a part of my wedding going to my comms team, saying, I know this didn’t happen.”
“Everyone in the institution knew it wasn’t true…” Meghan added.
As for why the media seems to pit these two women against each other, Meghan has her own theories:
“I can see now what layers were at play there… They really seemed to want a narrative of a hero and a villain.”
Needless to say, Twitter, and Oprah, were shocked at the revelation.
