When Justin Bieber stepped into the limelight with his first banger “One Time”, his whole life and everything he knew up to that point was about to change. He became one of the most famous people in the world, seemingly overnight, and he was only 16 years old.
It was all fun and games until the fast life caught up to him and began to take a toll on his mental health.
Let’s just say, Justin has come a long way since his classic sideways hair-flip and serenading the entire teenage female population.
Justin Bieber opened up last month about his recent mental health struggles.
While he wasn’t obligated to divulge any of this personal information to us, he did it anyway — keeping us fully in the loop.
“Just wanted to keep you guys updated a little bit hopefully what I’m going through will resonate with you guys,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Been struggling a lot. Just feeling super disconnected and weird,” he continued .
“I always bounce back so I’m not worried,” he said.
“Just wanted to reach out and ask for your guys to pray for me. God is faithful and ur prayers really work thanks .”
“The most human season I’ve ever been in facing my stuff head on.”
In February , Justin did an interview with Vogue where he opened up about his struggles with s*x and drug addiction.
He explained that in 2017, during his “Purpose” tour, he wasn’t doing so well.
“I got really depressed on tour,” he recalled . “I haven’t talked about this, and I’m still processing so much stuff that I haven’t talked about. I was lonely. I needed some time.”
Clearly, there has been a subsequent price to pay for his childhood fame, that he couldn’t have fully anticipated.
“I found myself doing things that I was so ashamed of, being super-promiscuous and stuff, and I think I used Xanax because I was so ashamed,” he said .
Justin admitted that even during his promiscuous phase, he had trouble enjoying himself.
“My mom always said to treat women with respect. For me that was always in my head while I was doing it, so I could never enjoy it,” he said .
“Drugs put a screen between me and what I was doing. It got pretty dark.”
“I think there were times when my security was coming in late at night to check my pulse and see if I was still breathing,” he revealed .
When Justin and Hailey first got together, he was more than a year and a half into his commitment to celibacy.
He explained that before that, he was having “a legitimate problem with s*x.”
So, the pair held out until they were married .
Last Monday, Justin wrote a lengthy message on Instagram explaining to his fans that he hopes his hiatus from music will soon be over.
He first wants to repair some of his “deep-rooted issues” in treatment.
“I’ve toured my whole teenage life, and early 20s, I realized and as you guys probably saw I was unhappy last tour,” he wrote.
“I don’t deserve that and you don’t deserve that,” he went on . “You pay money to come and have a lively energetic fun light concert and I was unable emotionally to give you that near the end of the tour.”
“I will come with a kick [expletive] album ASAP.”
Since opening up about his the state of his mental health, he’s made sure to prioritize it, and show us how seriously he’s taking it.
On Wednesday, he posted a selfie in his Instagram story, with the caption “Therapy session,” adding “It’s cool to have a healthy mind and emotions.”
Some fans think that Justin should open up even more about his mental health to help people truly understand the kind of pressure he is under.
“People crucify him for no real reason he deserves the best,” they added.
Another fan praised Justin for speaking up about what he has been going through.
They went on to say that the industry Justin has been in throughout most of his life so far, can easily drive a person insane.
This person pointed out that there is a stigma that surrounds men and mental health, specifically.
They added that Justin using his platform will “do a lot of good”, which is so true!
