What a lot of people may forget is the show launched the career of a handful of girls, including Maddie Ziegler and JoJo Siwa, all of which wouldn’t have been possible without Abby Lee.

Now, it’s no secret that Abby Lee Miller doesn’t have the best reputation. She was alllll about tough love, and sometimes just allll about being *tough*.
In June 2016, Abby Lee plead guilty to felony bankruptcy fraud and was sentenced to one year and one day in prison, but only ended up serving 8 months.
After being released from prison, Abby Lee was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma.
The cancer took away Abby Lee’s ability to walk, and she now uses scooters and wheelchairs for mobility.
However, the 53-year-old says doctors believe she will be able to walk again soon.
Tween icon JoJo Siwa is one of the few dancers from the show that still keeps in touch with Abby Lee, which is why it was no surprise JoJo defended her former dance instructor on TikTok recently.
Former Dance Mom star Brooke Hyland posted a TikTok video about her current relationship with Abby Lee.
In the since-deleted video, Brooke says she got a new Facebook friend suggestion from Abby Lee before turning the camera to shake her head and cringe.
As *Dance Moms* fans will remember, Brooke Hyland and her younger sister Paige left the competitive dance studio as well as the reality TV series after their mom Kelly Hyland got into a physical altercation with Abby Lee.
It will go down in the reality TV canon as an iconic TV moment, let’s just say that.

It seems like JoJo has a really good head on her shoulders and sticks up for who and what she believes in!
