The Modern Family dad, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, confessed that his TV daughter, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, sometimes ignores his calls, joking that it often bruises his ego.
The two worked together on the famous American sitcom Modern Family, playing father and daughter onscreen between 2009 and 2020. The show spanned across 11 seasons with Anderson-Emmons joining the cast on the third season.
Modern Family began in 2009
Four years after the Modern Family finale was aired in 2020, Ferguson still has a lot of love for his costars from the popular sitcom.
The 49-year-old actor spoke openly and lovingly about the bond he shares with his TV daughter Aubrey Anderson-Emmons.
Ferguson admitted he is often sent to voicemail
While talking to Us Weekly on his bond with Anderson-Emmons, Ferguson said, “I just called her the other day, and it went straight to voicemail.”
He joked about being hurt by it, “I was like, ‘Oh my god, she sent me to voicemail! I’m calling her, and she’s sending me to voicemail. She’s like, ‘Oh God, my TV dad’s calling me.’”
The two have known each other since Audrey was a baby
Because Ferguson has known Anderson-Emmons since she was 3 years old, he admitted he often forgets that she is not a little girl anymore.
Anderson-Emmons is now 17 years old, and Ferguson said, “You know, she’s a different human being now.”
The two costarred on Modern Family for 8 seasons
The famous American sitcom spanned across 11 seasons, with the pilot airing in 2009 and the finale in 2020.
Ferguson played Mitchell Pritchett on the show, with Anderson-Emmons joining on season 3 in 2011 to play his daughter, Lily Tucker-Pritchett.
Ferguson would like a Modern Family reunion
The actor admitted he would like Modern Family to be one of those sitcoms that come back years later with a reunion movie.
Giving ideas on what the movie could be about, he said, “We’ve been away from these characters for four or five years, like, let’s just drop in and see what’s happening five years later.”
The actor has a lot of ideas for the movie
Imagining what a Modern Family reunion movie could be about, Ferguson went on with his ideas saying, “Maybe Mitch and Cameron still moved away and you want to see these characters together, so it could be around some sort of family reunion.”
Anderson-Emmons’ character would now be a teenager
If a movie were to be made today about the current lives of the Modern Family characters, Lily Tucker-Pritchett played by Anderson-Emmons would be a teenager on her way to college.
Ferguson said that it would be nice to check in on that character and see what she would be like as a teenager.
Ferguson wants to remain true to the show
While some writers decide to make movies with famous show casts a little bit different, Ferguson thinks a Modern Family movie shouldn’t stray away from the show.
He said it shouldn’t be “too different than the show,” adding that it’s better if the movie is about the “deeper history of what’s happened over the past five years.”
The cast have a lot of love for each other
The actor admitted that it’s more the narrative he cares about rather than the script of the possible movie. He also revealed that the sitcom cast are “dying to all be together again.”
“We love each other so much,” he added. We would certainly love to see them together again!
Sofia Vergara doesn’t think it’s time yet
The actress who played Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the show was also asked about her thoughts on a possible Modern Family reunion in the future.
Vergara admitted that a reunion “doesn’t seem right” at the moment, before adding, “I feel like we need a little more time.”
