Hey gang, I thought I’d take some time today to talk about something which really boiled my onions — and that was Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop brand selling a bread knife for $348, when she also had an identical-looking one for sale for just over $40!?
Goop is a “lifestyle” website for people with one specific type of lifestyle…
Instagram | goop
And that lifestyle seems to be having far too much money and not a lot of sense where it counts! It is the sort of brand that markets itself using such nonsense terms as “energy healing” and “wellness,” and preaches that the natural world can help you live your best life…while making you pay through the nose for this luxury.
Also, it might just be me, but the phrase “lifestyle website” makes about as much sense as “healthy heroin.”
In preparation for Christmas, Goop has started pushing some wonderful new stock!
Goop.com
One item that really got my attention, along with a lot of other people’s attention, was the “Zwilling 9.5″ ULTIMATE BREAD KNIFE” which was priced at an eye-watering $348.
The website claims that this knife’s serrated edge will let you cut “even the crispiest baguette without the crust exploding all over the counter.” But, unless it has a hoover attachment, I’d like to call hot bullcrap on that statement! A baguette that doesn’t leave crumbs is like astrology: it doesn’t exist!
What was most baffling, was that there was another freakin’ identical-looking knife on the website!
Goop.com
Yes, the “Opinel N°116 BREAD KNIFE” was also advertised, and cost just over $40. So, I’m sure that you are wondering what the staggering amount of differences is between these two products? I know that I sure was!
Well, according to the product description, this knife’s serrated edge means that you will never struggle with making a mess of a baguette ever again! Wait…that does sound a little similar to the other knife now that I think about it.
Also, this is just a description of ever bread knife ever, can someone call or tweet Gwyneth to tell her that she sadly hasn’t invented the bread knife?
Yet, bafflingly, the products have both sold out!
Both of the knives are now sadly out of stock, which will be bad news for any of you guys out there looking for an overpriced bread knife.
Yep, the entire stock has been bought up by people who have names like Saffron, Rain, or Maximilian (which their parents claim they did ironically) spending trust fund money on overpriced things to fill the hole in their life that they don’t know what else to plug up with.
Guys, for the love of God, don’t be getting each other gifts like this for Christmas!
Unless your loved one is a professional baker who loves the Iron Man films, don’t get someone this for Christmas, get them something they aren’t expecting, something they really want but just won’t take the risk on, something exciting, something personal…but not an overpriced basic bread knife from a lifestyle website that claims to be helping with your “wellness” while fumbling round in your back pocket!
This year has been tough for a lot of people, so don’t get a bread knife for Christmas, please God don’t do that to someone you love this year. Let’s try and go out on a bang at least and enjoy ourselves as much as we can this Christmas period?
When it comes to Christmas classics, Frosty the Snowman is always on the yearly rotation.
After all, it’s got magic just like in that old top hat they found. It’s also got some random things you probably didn’t know about the beloved classic.
4. It was the final film narrator Jimmy Durante ever worked on.
Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment
Jimmy had a long career as a singer, jazz pianist, and comedian.
He was also known for being such a kind guy. Since he loved kids so much, he once famously turned down a performance fee at the Eagles International Convention in 1961
When the organizers asked what they could do instead, he replied “Help da kids.”
Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment
Sadly, the narrator of Frosty the Snowman passed away in 1972 after suffering a stroke.
His memory — and voice — carry on each year with the annual viewing of the Christmas film.
5. Voice actors June Foray and Paul Frees were replaced in later versions for unknown reasons.
Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment
Foray initially voiced young Karen and the school teacher, while Frees was the traffic cop and Santa Claus.
Both also voiced some of the children.
While their voices are in the original debut version, they were changed after that by identified child actors.
Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment
You can only find the original on the Rhino Records soundtrack.
To this day, it’s still a mystery as to why they were replaced
But it is something that the late voice actress was disappointed about.
Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment
“I was called in to voice the little girl Karen. I was disappointed to learn later that my work for the Karen character was replaced by another actress,” Foray recalled in the book The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass .
“To this day I am unsure of the reason, but I still enjoy the special.”
5. The number of fingers Frosty has changes in one scene.
This happens after Frosty becomes alive.
He has five fingers while he was counting to 10, but then in the next shot, he’s down to four fingers.
6. They modeled Durante after Jimmy Durante.
Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment
They did the same thing with the narrator in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and then Fred Astaire in Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town .
It helps add a personal touch.
7. The producers wanted *Frosty* to have a Christmas card feel.
Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment
In order to achieve it, they hired Paul Coker, Jr., a greeting card illustrator and Mad magazine artist, to create the look of the characters and backgrounds.
8. Rankin/Bass weren’t the first production company to bring Frosty to life.
It’s in black and white and seems more like a music video for the movie’s song.
9. It was partially made in Japan.
Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment
Instead of using stop-motion animation like the other Christmas specials, traditional animation was done by Mushi Studio.
This was the same company that produced Astro Boy and Kimba the White Lion cartoons.
10. Before voicing Santa in *Frosty*, Paul Frees had done a lot of cartoon work.
Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment
He was Boris Badenov in The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show and provided voice work for several Rankin/Bass productions.
This included the Three Wise Men in The Little Drummer Boy and Father Winter and Kubla Kraus in Jack Frost .
11. There have been parodies of the TV special.
Nickelodeon
Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants ran a parody of Frosty called Patrick the Snowman from 2002 to 2005. It featured Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants.
Anyone else think he should have been the Christmas star?
12. Frosty’s hometown is Armonk, New York.
Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment
It was the songwriter, Steve Nelson, who included this in the lyrics since he loved to visit Armonk when he was young.
The town has taken this as a badge of honor, as they host an annual Frosty Day parade and celebration.
The Village Square that is mentioned in the lyrics has been renamed as the Armonk Historic District in the town of North Castle.
There are even some people who claim that the traffic cop who hollers “Stop!” is based on former chief of police John Hergenhan.
One of my most favourite sayings is something my own Mom used to say to me, “If you don’t laugh you’ll cry!”
It was on day 2364645 of quarantine that I decided to take this on board and try to change my attitude.
Now, I’m not being insensitive. I know this year people have lost too much. I know people have lost jobs, and homes, and loved ones. I know people have lost hope, and friends, and even a little bit of sanity, but I promise- stick with me and by the end of this you should be smiling.
So what are these ‘special things’ that made 2020 NOT SUCK I hear you ask? Get a cup of tea (or wine, I’m no one to judge), sit down, and let’s go through some of the good things that happened in 2020.
1) The Promise Of A Vaccine
Unsplash | ThisisEngineering RAEng
Scientists created a vaccine in just 10 months. Given that most vaccines can take around ten years to produce, it is amazing that science has given us a light at the end of the tunnel, and we are grateful.
2) The End Of The Normal 9-to-5?
Unsplash | Chris Montgomery
Employers started to realize that we don’t need to be an office to be productive, with a lot of businesses adapting to new working conditions.
And, on the flip side family’s realized they didn’t need to be in the same room to connect with one another.
3) People Rediscovered Hobbies
Unsplash | Steve Johnson
As so many of us were faced with being stuck indoors all day, many people rediscovered their beloved hobbies, be it painting, writing, rollerskating, or bloody baking! You name it people did it! What hobby did you reconnect with this year?
4) Wising Up About Reality Stars
Unsplash | Sharon McCutcheon
Kim Kardashian who? Finally, people seem to be cottoning on to how irrelevant celebrity culture is. This year we stopped idolizing celebrities and sports stars and started giving doctors, nurses, care staff, shop workers, and scientists the credit they deserve. Thank you to the people who really kept us going!
5) Babies!
Unsplash | Minnie Zhou
Let me start off with something simple, pure, and beautiful, Babies. Babies have never been more cherished, more needed, more loved than in 2020. Babies are hope and future and too freakin’ cute. I am truly thankful to have a timeline full of babies.
Please comment pictures of your babies below to add to this joy!
6) Home-Made Takeaways!

So, this one sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but with lockdowns spreading across the globe, restaurants from all over the globe shared their secret recipes with consumers so we could make them at home… Except for KFC of course, a big ol’ boo to KFC!
If you made any culinary extravaganzas, share them with us!
Sometimes it can be hard to focus on the positives, but it is crucial to try for the sake of your mental wellbeing.

So, there you have it, a few of my favorite reasons as to why this year didn’t totally blow. And don’t forget coronavirus can’t steal your Christmas spirit as this year comes to a close.
Like a famous muppet once sang, “everywhere there’s love, it feels like Christmas.” What good thing did you take away from 2020? Let me know, below!
This includes men not being afraid to wear pink and females choosing to not feel guilty over not having a baby.
Regardless, we are here for it. Here are 10+ celebrities who are constantly defying gender stereotypes.
1. Jason Momoa
Who says men can’t wear pink? The Aquaman star more than proved he could pull it off when he wore this pink suit to the 2019 Oscars.
He also always had a scrunchie around his wrist to pull back that long hair.
2. Chris Evans
Instagram | @chrisevans
Even Captain America isn’t afraid to get real about mental health issues. Something that most men feel they can’t do, because of society’s expectations.
“I do struggle. I get anxiety about certain things and press, things like that,” he shared to Men’s Health in 2019. He also admitted that he was in therapy.
Anxiety was even at the root of him initially turning down Captain America.
“You feel very judged,” he admitted to The Hollywood Reporter . “And you’re a little unsure about who you are”.
The actress doesn’t feel a void being in her 50s without children or a husband.
“We live in a society that messages women: By this age, you should be married; by this age, you should have children…That’s a fairy tale,” she told Elle .
She said that that’s the mould we’re slowly trying to break out of.
“What quantifies happiness in someone’s life isn’t the ideal that was created in the ’50s. It’s not like you hear that narrative about any men.”
3. Leonardo DiCaprio
Just like Jennifer Aniston, the actor has proven that you can have happiness in your life without being married.
Besides, who needs it when you have a slew of model girlfriends and millions of dollars to keep you company?
Chris is 37 years old while Elsa is 44 years old. They have been married since 2010 and have three kids.
5. Emma Watson
Instagram | @emmawatson
If the actress had to choose between being a strong woman or not ruffling feathers, she’d choose being a strong woman. She isn’t into any old-fashioned ideas of what women should be.
“We want to empower women to do exactly what they want, to be true to themselves, to have the opportunities to develop,” she told Elle U.K. in 2016 about being a feminist.
6. Kayne West
Instagram | @kaynewest
The artist isn’t afraid to love fashion. Or, even to sell it as he has sold his interesting fashion to the masses with his clothing and footwear lines.
He has a super creative mind, clearly.
7. Goldie Hawn
Instagram | @goldiehawn
The actress doesn’t need a piece of paper to feel secure in her relationship with Kurt Russell. The pair have been together for 37 years without being married!
“Marriage is an interesting psychological thing,” she told the hosts of Loose Women .
“If you need to feel bound to someone, then it’s important to be married.”
She went on to say that not being married has psychologically left them both feeling freer.
“For me, I chose to stay. Kurt chose to stay, and we like the choice.”
8. Diane Keaton
Instagram | @dianekeaton
While suits are traditionally worn by men, the actress has become a purveyor of great suits.
She wears them to almost every red carpet event and loves to share her gender-bending fashion on her Instagram. “TODAY’S OUTFIT MEANS BUSINESS. CAN’T YOU TELL?” she captioned this picture .
9. Lady Gaga
Instagram @ladaygag
As a huge advocate for the LGBTQ community, the singer is all about encouraging people to be their true selves.
For her, this means embracing her male alter ego from time to time: Jo Calderone. He’s appeared in a few of her music videos, such as for “You & I.”
10. Emily Blunt
Instagram | @emilyblunt
Playing a woman who struggles with alcoholism in The Girl on the Train helped Blunt learn more about gender roles.
“I’ve been around both women who drink too much and guys who drink too much and it’s just as ugly on the guys,” she told The Hollywood Reporter .
11. Harry Styles
The singer has become an unstoppable fashion force thanks to his love of gender-bending outfits.
This includes colorful tracksuits and bedazzled blouses. Or, the time when he went head-to-toe in Gucci to the Met Gala.
12. Ezra Miller
Like Harry Styles, gender-bending fashion is what this actor is all about.
While some may assume that he does it to turn heads, his stylist told Vogue that he does it because it genuinely makes him happy.
13. Emma Rossum
We all know that unfortunately, women tend to make less than men.
After the actress found out that her Shameless co-star, William H. Macy, was making more than her despite having less screen time than her, she fought for equal pay .
After a very public battle, the salary standoff ended peacefully.
14. Margot Robbie
Instagram | @margotrobbie
The actress owns the fact that she doesn’t want to have kids.
“I’m so angry that there’s this social contract,” she told The Radio Times . “You’re married, now have a baby. I’ll do what I’m going to do.”
It was actually her role in *Mary, Queen of Scots* that caused a lot of this anger towards society.
Instagram | @margotrobbie
“How dare some old guy dictate what I can and can’t do when it comes to motherhood,” she said about her character being pressured to produce an heir.
15. Zac Efron
Instagram | @zacefron
Zac’s colorful nails are helping men to feel more comfortable expressing themselves, while simultaneously helping to raise awareness for violence against children.
Zac’s painted nail is meant to represent how 1/5 children are subjected to physical or sexual violence before the age of 18.
16. Kylie Jenner
Instagram | @kyliejenner
There was a time not too long ago when society might have scoffed at a 23-year-old single mother. Don’t be silly enough to make the mistake of misjudging Kylie, who is well on her way to becoming one of the world’s youngest billionaires once again.
17. Eva Longoria
Instagram | @evalongoria
Eva Longoria didn’t have her baby until she was 43. She believes that no one should be able to tell a woman when the right time to have children is.
The former Desperate Housewives star says women don’t lose the ability to conceive after the age of 35 and it’s high time we stopped pretending otherwise.
18. Sylvester Stallone
When Sylvester Stallone was 30 years old, he was on the verge of bankruptcy. The only thing of value he owned was a beat-up script to a passion project dubbed Rocky .
Sly defied those who cautioned him to settle down in order to pursue his dreams.
19. Adam Levine
Instagram | @adamlevine
Why can’t men date taller women; why can’t women date shorter men? These kinds of ridiculous standards in regard to height have plagued society for generations.
Adam Levine doesn’t buy into though. He’s more than secure enough in his masculinity to be in a loving relationship with a tall woman.
20. Hugh Jackman
Who says that just because you’re a man, you can’t show your love with another man?
Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ affection with each other is one of the many ways they prove to men that it’s GOOD to show emotions.
21. Tom Hardy
Just because a man has a tough exterior, doesn’t mean that he can’t have a sensitive or soft side. Case and point.
Jaden Smith believes that gender in fashion can be limiting. This is why he often enjoys showing up to red carpet events wearing a dress .
The young artist also loves vibrant colors, especially hues of pink and vibrant purples.
23. David Bowie
The legend of David Bowie will echo in eternity. In the ’70s and the ’80s, his appearance would have been considered shocking.
Bowie was a trailblazer in so many incalculable ways and it’s no exaggeration to say that without his influence — the world would look (and sound) a lot different.
24. Eddie Izzard
Throughout her entire career, Eddie has always been open about the fact that she has both a male and female side to her sexuality.
For years, Eddie has defied the norm and openly laughed in the face of anyone who would dare say that a man can’t dress like a woman.
25. Steven Tyler
Instagram | @iamstevent
When Aerosmith first stormed onto the scene, Steven Tyler didn’t fit the image of a stereotypical rock n’ roll lead singer. He wore scarves around his neck, braids in his hair, and incredibly ornate jewelry
I remember the year Infinity War came out, Josh Brolin had such a huge summer.
He also starred in Deadpool 2 , which is still one of the best R-Rated superhero movies.
Michael Rosenbaum/Martinex.
Marvel, IMDb
Ah, yes! Who could forget the classic character of Martinex! The ravager from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 who would… ravage things… I presume.
I’m going to shock you here readers, but I forgot this character existed.
Hugo Weaving and Ross Marquand/The Red Skull.
Marvel, IMDb, Instagram
The cool thing about this job (amongst many other cool things) is that you learn something new every single day.
I, for example, never knew the Red Skull was played by two different people.
Zoe Saldana/Gamora.
Marvel, Instagram
The problem with saying she’s “unrecognizable” in this role is that everyone knows Zoe Saldana plays Gamora. I mean, I find it hard to separate the two at times.
Then again, she doesn’t have green skin in real life.
Pom Klementieff/Mantis.
Marvel, Instagram
What? She doesn’t have antennae, black eyes and yellow skin in real life?
Next, you’ll be telling me that she can’t actually control your emotions! My whole perception of reality is ruined!
Elizabeth Debicki/Ayesha.
Marvel, Instagram
Oh yeah, I remember this character from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 . Had no idea her name was “Ayesha” though.
I presume she was hanging out with Martinex when that was revealed.
Chris Sullivan/Taserface.
Marvel, Instagram
Although this character was invented to be the butt of a joke, it was a joke that landed.
However, I’ll also agree that the actor is unrecognizable after all those pounds of makeup are removed.
Karen Gillan/Nebula.
Marvel, Instagram
Yes, this gorgeous redhead is completely unrecognizable as the merciless killer Nebula.
And honestly, it’s a little offensive. They couldn’t get a real blue-skinned person to play the alien? That’s textbook prejudice.
Michael Rooker/Yondu Udonta.
Marvel, Instagram
Is it weird that Yondu and Michael Rooker look a lot more similar than most of the other characters on the list?
Sure, Mr. Rooker doesn’t have a red implant and blue skin, but still…
Taika Waititi/Korg.
Marvel, IMDb
What?!? No way!!! I had no idea he was Korg!
Oh man, I loved him in What We Do In The Shadows … no wonder that character was so funny!
Lee Pace/Ronan the Accuser.
Marvel, Instagram
You would never recognize the actor who played the greatest villain in the Marvel Universe (yeah, you heard that right, fight me).
But once again, we see some textbook blue-skinned person prejudice. Psh, Hollywood.
James Spader/Ultron.
Marvel, IMDb
Man, Ultron was so cool. It was awesome how they made a machine so darn human and a lot of that was thanks to James Spader’s amazing voice work. Kudos, my friend.
I would have no idea you were Ultron, though.
Michael James Shaw/Corvus Glaive.
Marvel, Instagram
Oh yeah, I never would have guessed in 1000 years that Michael James Shaw played Corvus Glaive.
I guess that’s a testament to Marvel’s amazing computer animation skills.
Dave Bautista/Drax the Destroyer.
Marvel, Instagram
As a huge wrestling fan, I have the same problem with calling Bautista unrecognizable as I do with Zoe Saldana.
In fact, throughout the first movie, I just called the character “Batista”.
Paul Bettany/Vision.
Marvel, Instagram
Alright, now you’ve really got me. You’re telling me they didn’t actually build a super-advanced android with a super AI controlling it for the movie?
Wow, filmmakers are just fibbers.
Trevor Noah/ Griot
The Mary Sue – Instagram | @trevornoah
This one is kind of obvious, but there’s no way you would recognize the voice of Griot, the A.I. system in the Wakandan ship, on the street.
This small, but important role, was played by Trevor Noah.
Vin Diesel/ Groot
Marvel – Instagram | @vindiesel
If I had it my way, Vin Diesel would win the Guiness World Records for fewest lines in a movie to date. But there’s no shade in that, because the guy probably still made a lot of money for saying “groot” for an entire movie.
Ryan Reynolds/ Deadpool
IMDB – Instagram | @vancityreynolds
While Wade Wilson certainly looks like the Canadian actor in the movie Deadpool, his mutated self does not.
This disfigurement happens when the healing agent meant to cure his cancer morphs his skin.
Alexis Denisof/ The Other
Fandom – IMDB
Like Trevor Noah, Alexis Denisof plays a small, but critical, role in The Avengers .
He plays The Other, an alien-like being that is Thanos’ right hand guy.
