All mothers gain weight throughout their pregnancy . While there are many doctors who suggest “healthy” numbers of weight gain, we all know that every mother, and every body, is totally different. No two pregnancies are identical because no two mothers , or babies, are identical.
Due to this, many mothers experience different side effects.
Some mothers will gain more weight during pregnancy, while others gain only a small amount. Some mothers have food cravings and mood swings, while others experience little-to-no changes in their mood or food consumption.
Society and medical professionals will always say there’s a “normal” for every pregnancy.
According to Health.com, doctors claim the “normal acceptable” target weight gain during pregnancy is anywhere from 25-30 pounds.
This clearly makes mothers who exceed this range feel increasingly insecure and paranoid during their pregnancy.
Many mothers begin to worry that they are doing something wrong or putting the baby in jeopardy due to society’s standards for weight during pregnancy.
However, for some women, gaining more weight is their normal.
All mothers weigh in differently before pregnancy, therefore, they will gain and weigh different sizes during pregnancy.
One Instagram influencer opened up on her social media page about weighing in at over 200 pounds during her pregnancy.
Sarah Tripp became well known on Instagram and social media after her husband had published a letter in 2017 about how much he loves his “curvy wife.”
Sarah recently opened up about her pregnancy and being a curvy mom in a post that went viral.
In the post, she opened up about her weight gain, saying: “today it happened. i looked down at the scale at my doctor’s appointment: 202 lbs. for a few fleeting moments, i felt bad about myself. some of my best advice for curvy gals is to toss their scales out the window and never let a number define them. in fact, i don’t even own a scale and haven’t for years!”
She’s vowed to stay positive about her weight gain.
“But being pregnant means i get weighed at least once a month at check ups, and i do ask to know the number so i can mentally track for my health and baby’s development. my doctor and her nurses have never once made me feel less than for being curvy and pregnant. my @tripp tells me at least five times a day that i’m even more beautiful when i’m pregnant. i’m so thankful to have these positive voices around me!”
Still, Sarah did talk about how she felt self conscious about this weight gain.
“So why did i let a scale make me feel that way today? maybe it’s because i haven’t weighed this much since before i was really yo-yo’ing with weight gain and loss in college. or maybe because being pregnant is a very emotional stage of life. maybe it’s because i look nothing like all the cute, thin bloggers i scroll past with their adorable basketball bellies and fab maternity style. or maybe it’s because no one really talks about being curvy and pregnant, let alone show it with pictures and vulnerability.”
She hopes other moms-to-be don’t let their weight define them.
“Your girl officially joined the 200lbs club today, and i really had to take a step back and remember that i’m growing a tiny human inside of me and it’s okay. and even if i weren’t, it would still be okay! my body grows and changes and gains weight. it doesn’t define me… and it doesn’t define you either! i’m sticking with my motto of throwing out your scale, being kind to yourself during different stages of life, putting importance on heath, and learning not to place worth solely in numbers. you got this curvy ladies and mamas! you’re so beautiful.”
Women online were so happy that Sarah opened up about this, because many women undergo the same feelings and pressures from society while pregnant.
One mother wrote: “I’m 31 weeks pregnant and really struggling with this at the moment. Thank you for sharing.” And, another added: “Thanks for sharing this. I love your vulnerability. You are so beautiful especially pregnant! I weighed myself today and I am well over 200 pounds and in my third trimester. I felt like crap for a couple of hours and then read this. Growing a human is a beautiful thing!”
And, her husband even chimed in the comment section.
Sarah’s husband added: “Without a doubt, you’ve never looked more beautiful than when you’re carrying our child, dollface.” How sweet!
We’re so glad Sarah and her husband have taken a positive approach to this issue.
