Rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs apparently didn’t know that his jailhouse call with Kanye West which was recently leaked was being recorded. A snippet of Diddy’s voice from the call has been used by West in a new song.
The video was posted on Instagram
A video of Kanye West taking a call with Diddy was leaked and posted on Monday 17 March on the Instagram page The Shade Room.
The video was shot from a low angle and showed Kanye on the phone, making it appear to have been filmed by him, although this has not yet been confirmed.
A source claimed Diddy didn’t know
The phone call where Diddy was talking from his jailhouse seemed to involve him encouraging Kanye to “get behind the mic” and release new music.
A source who spoke with the New York Post claimed that “Puff didn’t know it was being recorded [on video].” They also said that Diddy “thought he was having a friend call him to check on his kids.”
Calls are typically recorded internally
Prison calls are typically recorded and logged internally but it’s unusual for them to make it to the public as that’s not part of the procedure.
But the source further confirmed that the call was authentic, saying, “The call was real and not AI.” This was after rising speculation on social media regarding the call’s authenticity.
Combs is currently held without bail
Diddy is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York without bail as he awaits trial on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.
Combs was showing support to West
In the call which appeared to be recorded by West, Diddy seemed to be encouraging him to remain enthusiastic about music following the backlash he’s been receiving.
Diddy could be heard telling West, “I need you out there,” adding that he should “have some f***ing fun,” to which West replies in agreement, “yes sir.”
In the call, Diddy could also be heard thanking West for “taking care of my kids.” The source which spoke to the outlet confirmed that the jailed rapper’s kids are in touch with West.
West used Diddy’s voice from the call in a song
Taking an excerpt from Diddy’s words of gratitude, West put it in his new song Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine.
The song, which West posted then deleted a snippet of on X/Twitter, also features his and ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s 11-year-old daughter, North West.
Kardashian didn’t want their daughter on the song
TMZ reported that Kim tried to stop West from featuring their daughter on the song by trademarking North’s name.
She had reportedly said, “I asked you at the time if I can trademark her name. You said yes. When she’s 18, it goes to her. So stop. I sent paperwork over so she wouldn’t be in the Diddy song to protect her. One person has to trademark! We agreed when they were born I would get all of our kids names and trademarks. So one else would take them.”
West reportedly replied to her saying, “amend it or I’m going to war. And neither of us will recover from the public fallout.”
The source claimed that Diddy was “collateral damage”
The source who gave insight on the recorded call from Diddy’s perspective claimed, “Diddy is collateral damage in the debacle over Ye’s new song – the beef is really with Kim.”
The song features Kanye West, Diddy, Diddy’s son ‘King Combs’, Jasmine Williams and West and Kardashian’s 11-year-old North West.
