Every holiday season comes with an allocated budget, and many start shopping for their Christmas gifts weeks in advance. However, how much should every Christmas gift cost?
A mother shared that she does not spend much on Christmas gifts for her three children, only $33 on each child. The mother shared that she believes her kids will value and remember the memories of Christmas rather than any gifts.
The mother spoke about this on her TikTok
The 27-year-old mother shared on her TikTok platform that her Christmas gift shopping for the year has only amounted to just above $100.
Sadie Farren who is a hospitality manager based in Leeds, UK managed to pull off a surprisingly small budget.
The mother explained the small budget
The single mother who managed to finish her Christmas shopping within budget admitted that she used to put herself in debt due to buying expensive Christmas gifts every year for her three children who are aged six years old, five years old, and three years old.
Christmas is now a lot more relaxing
Farren shared that she feels as though the festive season is much more relaxing now that she is living within her own means.
The hospitality manager also said that she feels as though her kids do not care about the prices of their presents.
She feels the pressure is too much
In another video, the mother shared her views saying, “I feel it [Christmas] gets more competitive every year. It’s all just been commercialized. I used to spend thousands when my son was born. I hated it.”
Before adding, “I actually did it for my own validation. It wasn’t even for him, it was the pressure of Christmas.”
The mother shared how her kids felt
Farren continued explaining how it was for her son in the years prior, saying, “He was really overwhelmed and I think I’ve learned over the years that actually, my kids don’t want much.”
“They don’t need much and they’re happier with such basic items,” she added.
Farren said that she learnt a lesson
In speaking about how she reached the conclusion that she should not be paying huge sums of money on Christmas gifts, she added that she has learnt from her past mistakes.
“So instead of getting myself into debt I’ve really learned a lesson,” the mother said.
She used to feel pressured regarding Christmas
Farren admitted that she used to feel pressured by the commercialization of the festive season, “I wanted to prove people wrong, because I was a young parent, I felt pressured anyway. That is ridiculous, I didn’t have to do that at all.”
She doesn’t feel that pressure now
“The pressure now doesn’t bother me, I think I’ve learned a lot,” the mother of three said, before adding, “My kids don’t care much about presents. They’re nice and they’re a bonus but they remember memories.”
Farren is having a more relaxed holiday season this year.
The mother said her kids care more about memories
Farren explained that expensive gifts aren’t important because her children care more about good memories, “My kids don’t care much about presents. They’re nice and they’re a bonus but they remember memories.”
“So they’re more bothered about that and their experiences than what’s under the tree every Christmas,” she added.
Farren bought her kids a lot of gifts
The mother went on to share the five gifts she got for each of her kids which included jigsaw puzzles, a pair of roller skates, a skateboard and a karaoke machine.
The most she spent on a single item was around $15 for an e-reader, so hey, Christmas shopping doesn’t need to break the bank!
