In the midst of a global pandemic, a lot of people are still in the process of working from home. While the start of the pandemic brought us all closer to our sofas and to our families, there are many companies who do not feel it is quite safe enough to return to the office and work in-person full-time. For that reason, many of us are still stuck at home.
While working at home is hard, there are some perks.
Not having to sit in a morning commute and get dressed up for work are two of the positives that come along with working from home.
It’s safe to say that many of us have been dressing “casually” for our home days.
Not everyone wants to get all dressed and dolled up if we don’t have to go out of the house and many of our interactions take place on Zoom.
Recently, one woman opened up on Reddit that her husband has been pretty vocal about her new “WFH” attire.
The wife said that she works as a paralegal for a large firm. Recently, she has been dressing differently than she would when she is in the office.
“Since I have been working from home, I am not dressing professionally with full makeup and hair and all of that jazz. I typically wear jeans and a sweater or leggings and a sweater with more casual hair and no makeup,” she said.

She does change her look if she has a big meeting, though.
“If I have meetings with the attorneys or clients, I will wear jeans and a button-down top/blouse or sweater and put on a full face of makeup and hair,” she said.
On one particular day, her husband came home and caught her in sweats.
“Today when my husband got home from work, he saw that I was wearing sweat pants and a sweatshirt. I had no meetings today, and I just wanted to be comfortable. He asked me if that is what I wore to work and I said yes,” she added.
Her husband then went into a rant about how she looked like a “slob” and that working from home is no excuse to dress in such a way.
“I told him that his comments were unnecessarily hurtful and mean and that it didn’t matter what I was wearing to work, as long as I was actually working, which I was. I told him that what I wear when I work from home is none of his business and as long as my job performance is not suffering, which it is not, then he should back off about it,” she said.
Now, her husband is asking for an apology from her for being so “stubborn and rude.”
She asked Reddit users if she was wrong for not “dressing up” when she is working from home and if there is anything wrong with trying to be comfortable during this time.
Many people in the Reddit thread said there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being comfortable while working from home.
“He was rude and insulting and completely off base — who the hell cares how you dress while working from home if you’re not on camera? I hope this is out of character and not his usual attitude towards you because that would be horrible and controlling. Wear what you like,” one person said.
Others were confused why the husband has any say at all.
“I’m really confused as to why your husband seems to have contempt for you and how you dress. It’s your job! And you wanted to be comfortable! And no one was seeing you! I’m sorry you had to deal with that.
He WAS mean and his comments WERE hurtful. I know the pandemic stresses everyone in different ways, but you in no way owe him an apology,” one person added.
Overall, Reddit users were on the side of this woman and felt her husband’s comments were totally uncalled for.
“I’m an attorney and unless I have a meeting, all I wear is sweatpants and t-shirts. And even during meetings I’m still wearing sweatpants on the bottom, and if it’s just an office meeting I still wear t-shirts. Everyone knows this whole situation is uncomfortable. Might as well not worry about clothing and just focus on being more productive while working from home. If you were my paralegal I would be totally okay with your outfit choices,” another user said.
