Star actress Angelina Jolie has revealed the question a hitman asked which ended up saving her life after she tried to hire him to kill her.
The Lara Croft: Tomb Raider star opened up about a dark time in her past when she almost hired a hitman to take her life. The star has since shared the one question he asked her which ultimately ended up saving her life.
Jolie opened up about it
Jolie opened up about her struggles with mental health, sharing that she once considered suicide but had thought of hiring a hitman to do it instead.
She thought it would be easier on her family to hear this news than news of the actress having done it herself.
She spoke to The Face
Speaking with The Face in 2003, the now 49 years old actress said, “They’re [hitmen] not that hard to find in New York. As insane as it sounds, I think a lot of people consider suicide when they’re young.”
Jolie was worried about family
The Maleficent actress shared that she was concerned about how her family might feel.
“I was very aware that so many people around me, like my mother, would feel as though they didn’t give enough or do enough, if I’d taken my own life,” she added.
She considered hiring a hitman
Jolie thought hiring a hitman would make her death easier on her family.
“So my solution to that was if someone else had taken my life – like in a ‘robbery’ – then it would be murder and it wouldn’t be that anyone would feel they’d let me down,” the Hollywood star explained.
Jolie would gradually withdraw cash
The actress and activist shared that she had planned on gradually withdrawing cash from the bank to pay the hitman instead of taking a large amount out at once, so as to not raise suspicion.
Her plans changed when the hitman asked her to do one thing.
She believed he was a decent person
The hitman asked her to reconsider. “He was a decent enough person and asked if I could think about it and call him again in two months,” Jolie shared.
“Something changed in my life and I figured I’d stick it out,” she added.
Jolie is now a star and a mother
Clearly, the universe had a different plan for the beloved actress, as she later went on to become one of the biggest names in Hollywood and a proud mother of six children: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne who are 16 years old.
Jolie met ex-husband Brad Pitt on set
Jolie shares her six children with now ex-husband Brad Pitt, who she met on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith in 2005.
The pair were married between 2014 and 2016 and have only recently reached a settlement after an eight-year-long divorce battle.
Her attorney announced the agreement
“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr Pitt,” Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, said in a statement on 30 December 2024.
“She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” he added.
The actress is happier now
“This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over,” Simon added.
Thankfully, the beloved actress seems happier and healthier now more than ever.
