Moms have a lot of opinions, no matter what the topic is.
Today, we’re going to be looking at the topic of lesbians on television. Because believe it or not, a lot of people have opinions about the commercial that Hallmark aired on their channel.
Moms are a strange breed, aren’t they? They can be awfully different from mom to mom.

You can have moms that are super supportive, and make adorable Facebook posts that are embarrassing but harmless.
There are also moms who have issues with lesbians and had some big things to say against the Hallmark channel.
So there’s this new commercial on the Hallmark channel.

That features two lesbians kissing for a wedding. Perfectly normal, right?
Not according to One Million Moms, the group that has been protesting the commercial for showing off the lesbian couple doing the same thing heterosexual couples do.
Oi vey.

Here’s the statement One Million Moms came out with, just in case you need a good laugh:
“Shame on Hallmark for airing commercials with same-s*x couples and even considering movies with LGBT content and lead characters. Until recently, Hallmark had a good record for keeping their movies and commercials family-friendly.”
They continued by saying:
“Now, parents can no longer trust Hallmark because Hallmark is no longer allowing parents to be the primary educators when it comes to s*x and sexual morality.”
Then, following the backlash, they actually removed the commercial.
It was quick and brutal, and from that spawned the necessary Twitter backlash of #BoycottHallmarkChannel.
A lot of the hashtags were being used politely while still making very good points.
The hashtag continued for a few days, before anything actually came of it.
A lot of people assume that this boycott would go unanswered, but actually, Hallmark surprised quite a few people with their answer to what was going on.
Hallmark actually reinstated the advertisement.
In a move that most of us didn’t see coming, Hallmark reinstated the advertisement and made a few statements following the controversy.
Hallmark Cards CEO, Mike Perry, said this about the entire situation:
“The Crown Media team has been agonizing over this decision as we’ve seen the hurt it has unintentionally caused. Said simply, they believe this was the wrong decision. We are truly sorry for the hurt and disappointment this has caused.”
Hallmark will also be looking to work closer with GLAAD to make sure that something like this wouldn’t happen again.

They will be “working with GLAAD to better represent the LGBTQ community.”
They will also reach out to the ad company who gave them the commercial to work closely with them on diversity.
Needless to say, One Million Moms are probably still super unhappy about everything.
Since, in the end, they didn’t win the fight.
But we are pretty sure they’ll be back, since Hallmark is now working to include same-s*x couples in their films, and not just commercials.
Here’s the commercial:
You can decide for yourself whether or not it’s offensive.
