When it comes to home decor , there are a few places that we all love to shop . From Home Goods to Hobby Lobby to TJ Maxx and even Marshalls, there are some places we can’t resist going to when we want to decorate our home.
However, there are some things that we may love for the house that other people think are “basic.”
Thanks to social media, we know what things are falling under the category of basic.
In slang, basic characterizes someone or something as unoriginal, unexceptional, and mainstream.
If we see something too often being used and repeated all over, we deem it’s “basic.” Many times, people say that it’s “basic white girls” who do this often.
One thing the Internet sees as “basic’ are certain home decor signs.
We’ve all seen signs that read “live, laugh, love,” and other positive yet cheesy types of signs that are sold at home decor stores.
While some people love and enjoy these things, we have seen them all over so often that many think they’re basic.
Case in point, John Michael Baker’s “basic white sister.”
John Michael Baker is a makeup artist that shares his looks frequently online but has recently gone viral on TikTok for something completely different.
His recent video series that he’s shared showcases his “basic white sister’s house” and all that is inside of it.
John goes all over his sister’s house reading the dozens upon dozens of signs she has hanging up.
Many of the signs are basic quotes and positive phrases that you see in every Home Goods store known to man.
While some of them seem rather sweet and harmless, John shows that they are literally everywhere, all over the house.
There is one wall that is frame-to-frame quotes and photos.
Many of the quotes are generic ones about family, love, home, blessings, and positivity.
John reads all of them in a slow, mundane voice throughout the video series. It almost is too good to watch.
Not to mention, his headpiece.
In the videos, John also takes his sister’s wreath off the door and wears it around his head as a “flower crown,” another “basic white girl” signature.
As he reads through each quote, it is more clear that his sister just cannot say no to positive signs.
All of the signs practically say the same thing, which is the funniest part.
The signs, which seem to be never-ending, all essentially read the same things.
All of them talk about how their “big, crazy family” is special and how wonderfully blessed their home is. John has a way of making it all seem far too funny.
People on TikTok were confused as to why people all buy these signs.
One person commented that they were convinced that “no one” buys these signs and that they “must all be gifts.”
Some people can’t wrap their heads around the idea that people do, in fact, love the quotes and their positivity.
And, one person said what we were ALL thinking.
One TikTok user commented that she thought she was cool until she saw this video. To be honest, I think we all have one or two of these quotes somewhere in our home. But, I guess we are all a little bit basic.
