Since Grace VanderWaal auditioned for American’s Got Talent at just 12 years old, we’ve basically watched her grow up.
While she’s experimented with different looks in the past, her new one is really turning heads.
Suffice to say, she’s barely recognizble. This has given a whole new meaning to her hit song, “I Don’t Know My Name.”
This is Grace VanderWaal.
In case you don’t know her, here’s a quick summary: she blew the judges of America’s Got Talent away in 2016 when she performed her original song, “I Don’t Know My Name.”
The world soon knew her name thanks to her distinctive vocals.
Her audition even earned her the Golden Buzzer from Howie Mandel.
But that was nothing compared to the feeling of accomplishment that came from actually winning the entire season of America’s Got Talent when she was just 12 years old.
Grace carried her momentum forward and released her debut studio album “Just The Beginning* in 2017.
Overall, the album was well-received and debuted at #22 on the Billboard Top 100 Chart .
From here, Grace went on to tour with the likes of Imagine Dragons and even had the incredible opportunity to share a stage with Florence and the Machine .
Last year, Grace made her acting debut in the Disney + original film, *Stargirl*.
Grace played Susan “Stargirl” Caraway.
The film is actually based on the novel written by Jerry Spinelli and tells the story of a young boy whose life is forever changed after he meets a charming and confident new kid who goes by the name of Stargirl !
On top of it all, Grace was named one of *Billboard*’s “21 Under 21” for three years in a row.
The list comprises the 21 fastest up-and-coming young stars in the music industry.
Grace was first mentioned back in 2016 and received the honor for two more recurring years.
But despite all her notoriety, there’s also a good chance that you may not *recognize* her as of late.
After all, she’s undergone a major transformation over the years — as any teenage girl would.
Just look at her now! The 17-year-old’s style has definitely gone edgy.
She first shaved her head back in December, a move that shocked fans.
It isn’t hard to see why, either. Grace’s newfound look is a stark departure from the innocent-looking little girl that America had grown to know and love.
It didn’t take long before certain fans began to question Grace’s mental health .
Many were quick to presume that Grace’s new look was a sign of her own self-destruction.
While others were quick to commend Grace on her new aesthetic and pointed out that her new rock n’ roll-inspired look was a much cooler fashion choice.
However, there was one comment in particular that sent Grace over the edge.
After some compared her to Britney Spears’ shaved head meltdown, Grace broke her silence and clapped back .
“The comments are sending me GOOD RIDDANCE IF YOU DONT LIKE IT.”
Grace’s shaved head isn’t the only thing that’s changed. She’s also traded her ukulele for a bass guitar!
Grace is pivoting from the acoustic sound that helped her to gain international notoriety and is instead focused on making pop music that’s infused with alternative elements .
But don’t worry, she still hasn’t forgotten where she came from.
Grace recently took to Instagram to post a video of herself covering Jack Johnson’s “Banana Pancakes” from his quintessential “In Between Dreams” album.
If ever there was a duet that would break the internet — it would be Grace and Jack Johnson.
So what are your thoughts on Grace’s new look?
Do you prefer the little girl with a ukelele and a bob cut or are you more partial to the grown-up, new wave/rock n’ roll style that Grace is sporting these days?
