As some areas of the world tentatively start to encourage people to leave their homes and try inhabiting public spaces again, public health authorities are doing their best to make sure it’s done as safely as possible. While governments understandably want economies to get back up to speed, it can’t be done if consumers don’t feel safe and secure going to stores and restaurants.
One thing we’ve been hearing a lot is that the world isn’t going to go back to how it was before the pandemic, not right away and possibly not for a long, long time yet, if at all.
There might be no better illustration of that than this German cafe’s solution to ensuring social distancing among customers on its patio.
Cafe & Konditorei Rothe in Schwerin, Germany, caught the attention of many on social media with its innovation.
In a Facebook post , customers could be seen wearing the contraptions staff had handed out: hats with pool noodles taped to them in the name of ensuring proper social distancing.
Whether it’s more of an advertising gimmick or a real lifehack solution is anybody’s guess.
However, comments on the post are largely positive, with most people at least seeing some humor in the scene. Nevertheless, many expressed some concern at the idea of sharing hats between customers if some sort of hygiene measures aren’t taken.
Still, the sight of customers wearing pool noodles has been shared more than 2,000 times, and fun seems to have been at least part of the aim behind the hats.
“In these difficult times it’s a pleasure to make others smile,” the cafe’s owner, Jacqueline Rothe told Insider .
The cafe has not posted more pictures with customers since the re-opening, so it’s also unclear if the hats were a one-time opening stunt or something they intend to make customers wear every visit.
