Proposing to someone is no easy feat. Even if it’s the most simple proposal in the world, done in private in a casual way, it can still cause a flurry of nerves , and any number of t4hings can go wrong.
Someone who experienced this firsthand is critically acclaimed actor George Clooney , whose proposal to his wife Amal was “a disaster” according to him.
Marriage proposals are so, so anxiety-inducing.
Yes, they’re beautiful too, the union of a happy couple and the ultimate display of dedication, but the whole setup and execution make me nervous just thinking about it. So much could go wrong!
This applies to celebrities too.
Yes, it’s true, they do get nervous about the same things we regular people do. Wild, right?
One celebrity in particular who had a proposal that didn’t go as planned is Ocean’s Eleven star, George Clooney.
He recently spilled some funny details about his proposal to Amal.
Well, they’re funny now, at the time they sounded near disastrous. In fact, that’s the exact wording that Clooney used when rehashing the event, saying the proposal was a “disaster.”
He shared this on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’.
“It was a disaster, I planned it out, I planned the whole thing out,” he began , bracing himself to tell this likely embarrassing story (though we all know how it ended anyway).

He and Amal hadn’t been dating long at this point.
“I’ve got the ring in a little drawer behind her, I’ve made dinner and we had only been dating for about six months.”
His plan was to ask Amal to grab something from the drawer and have the ring surprise her.
All while ‘Why Shouldn’t I’ by Rosemary Clooney player in the background.
Things took an unexpected turn, as when Amal found the ring, she thought it belonged to one of his ex-girlfriends.
“She kind of pulls this thing out, this little drawer, and there’s a diamond ring in there,” he described, saying she scoffed at the sight of it.
There was definitely a moment of confusion.
He then rolled his eyes as he continued, “And she looks at it and she’s like, ‘Uh there’s a ring in there.’ Like somebody left a ring there years ago. And I’m like on my knee…”
But, as I said, we all know how it ended.
Whatever confusion there was cleared up pretty quick, and, as Clooney described it, after 20 minutes of Amal saying “oh my god, oh my god,” she finally said “yes!”
The two got married just five months later.
They weren’t even together for a year before their wedding!
Their quick engagement wasn’t a reason for doubt it seems, as the two recently celebrated their eight-year wedding anniversary. Judging by the way Clooney talks about Alma, they’re very much still in love!
