Many people who work for companies and businesses that are wildly popular learn a few secrets and “behind-the-scenes” information. While we want to share this with the world, while we work there, we know we’re better off keeping it hush-hush .
But, as soon as we quit, or get fired, we know we can share those secrets with the world so that other people can avoid major problems down the road .
McDonald’s is a fast-food establishment that is popular worldwide.

The fast-food chain is not only an American staple at this point, but it now has locations all over the world with many different menu items in many different countries. There have been tons of rumors over the years about their food and the specific ways that it’s made.
We all know fast food isn’t necessarily “good for you.”

The fast-food chain has never been one to preach on the basis of health and nutrition, and over the years many people have come out discussing the health detriments of eating at McDonald’s. However, we still love a good Happy Meal.
Recently, a popular TikTok trend exposed one of McDonald’s better-kept secrets.

A new trend on TikTok has been calling on former employees to expose secrets of the former companies that they worked for. Now that these people are no longer working for the companies, they can spill all of that tea.
One woman, who was a former manager of a McDonald’s location, got real about one of the items.

Nicole Weiser, a former manager, said one thing she was totally turned off by was the process in which McDonald’s made their iced teas.
Now, if you’re a frequent McDonald’s customer, you know there are two different types of tea—sweet iced tea and unsweetened iced tea.

And a lot of people LOVE sweet iced tea.
She said the two drinks were separated by colors.
Which is a tactic most restaurants use.

Weiser said the red jug—which was 4 gallons—was labeled red, while the green jug—also 4 gallons—was labeled green. The red jug was the “sweet” tea, while the green jug was the unsweetened tea.
For the red jug, the process to sweeten it was far too much.

The process in which McDonald’s makes their sweet tea is not only gross but also alarming.
“For every four gallons of the red jug, the sweet tea, there was a full four-pound bag of sugar emptied into it.
“One pound per gallon of tea.” Weiser said.

Weiser said knowing the process changed her outlook on the beverage. Personally, I can’t blame her. I don’t know whether or not I wouldn’t be able to drink it after seeing that.
Weiser had stated previously she would indulge and have a cup of sweet tea time and again while on the clock at her McDonald’s location.
But knowing that they put that much sugar into the tea, she never drank it again.
In the comments, many shared their shock and disbelief.

Many people in the comments section were appalled with how much sugar goes into the drink, with one commenter saying he also worked at McDonald’s.
“I worked there as a teen and when I was taught how to make the sweet tea I gagged,” he wrote .
One person said she was also floored by the amount of sugar added to the tea.

“Omg yes, when I helped my friend at a McDonald’s. I remember adding the sugar and thinking I was done and she says nope, you have another bag to pour in… I was
wait a minute….” she wrote .
However, one commenter said the sugar is “not that much.”

” The McDonald’s sweet tea clip sounded really bad when she said there’s a whole pound of sugar per gallon. But… 1 pound is only 2 cups of sugar per gallon.
“Most southerners use at least 1.5 cups of sugar for their gallon of sweet tea.”

“So McDonald’s is just being a little extra southern,” the commenter added.
I hear you, and I understand you, but it still seems like a LOT of sugar to me.
Another parent shared that their son swore off McDonald’s ice cream after working there.

“My Son worked at McDonald’s for a while and he insisted that we stop buying ice cream from any of the locations, anywhere.”
The more you know!
“He said that some of the machines are absolutely gross and most likely never properly cleaned,” she added.

Well, I think one thing is for sure. No matter where you eat, you should always be a little weary it seems!
