Scientists have found the solution to giving humans long life, but it’s not on this planet ! A new discovery showed that there’s a place in the galaxy where you can live for as long as 3,158 years.
Distance From Earth
TOI-4306 is half the size of the sun and 100 light years away from Earth but with the life expectancy being 42x more, perhaps the journey is worth it.
The Finder
Thanks to Astrophysicist Laetitia Delrez at the University of Liège (Belgium), humans are now aware of the two planets around star TOI-4306.
Differences From Earth
The planets are 6.5 times smaller than the sun, so it certainly can’t accommodate the entire eight billion Earth residents. Only a few could ever afford to go if it comes to that anyway.
Planet One
The first planet, LP 890-9b, a.k.a. TOI-4306b, orbits a complete circuit around the star in 2.7 days. It’s more than the Earth by 30 percent, so it could accommodate eight billion Earth residents.
Life Expectancy On Earth
The global life expectancy on Earth is about 73 years since the new planets take longer to orbit the star, which gives them shorter years and longer life expectancies for the inhabitants.
TESS’ Discovery
NASA program Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) discovered the second planet LP 890-9b while surveying planets outside the Earth’s solar system.
SPECULOOS 2c
Due to the infrared cameras in SPECULOOS ( S earch for habitable P lanets EC lipsing UL tra-c OO l S tars), scientists found a third planet tagged LP 890-0c, a.k.a. SPECULOOS-2c. It’s a cold planet due to its position in the solar system – closer to the star than the sun.
Starting On The Colder Planets
Scientists posit that the expedition would start on colder planets because they’re more inhabitable to humans.
The Second Best
Of the three newly discovered planets, the scientists want to start with LP 890-9c saying it’s the “second best candidate for research.”
Smaller Than The Sun
The scientists explained the logic behind their decisions, saying LP 890-9 (the star) is 6.5 times smaller than the sun. It also has 1/2 the surface temperature of Earth’s star making it suitable for human life.
Larger Than Earth
Delrez announced her findings last September adding that SPECULOOS 2c is 40 percent larger than the earth and orbits longer at 8.5 days.
Studying All Planets
The research team’s study would include the planet’s atmosphere and life forms. They’ll find the unique features of each planet and decide which is best for humans.
Different Star Models
Delrez ended her research by saying,
On-Ground Research First
Before leaving Earth (they may not leave), Delrez and her team would start the research with scientific equipment, including a ground-based telescope.
