68-year-old music legend, Phil Collins fell backward in his chair the other day, and is already recovering as fans send him their well-wishes.
It’s no secret that Phil Collins’ health hasn’t been in great shape in the last decade.
Things began to deteriorate in 2009 after he injured vertebrae in his upper neck while performing.
By 2011 he was forced to announce his retirement after the damage done to his nerves left him unable to play the drums anymore.
At the time, a statement was released on the Genesis website: “Somehow, during the last Genesis tour, I dislocated some vertebrae in my upper neck and that affected my hands,” Phil wrote.
“After a successful operation on my neck, my hands still can’t function normally.”
“Maybe in a year or so it will change, but for now it is impossible for me to play drums or piano .”
Phil insisted that he wasn’t bothered by his prognosis and was determined to spend his time off with his third wife and sons.
Unfortunately, that plan backfired…
It wasn’t long after that he split from his wife, sending him into an unfortunate state of alcohol-induced self-sabotage.
“Within months you’re drinking vodka from the fridge in the morning and falling over in front of the kids, you know,” he admitted in 2016 .
“But it was something I lived through, and I was lucky to live through it and get through it. I was very close to dying,” he disclosed.
The already bad situation turned worse in 2012 when Phil was rushed to the hospital with acute pancreatitis .
“My organs were kind of [expleitve]. It was spirits, corrosive stuff,” he later said.
In 2013, doctors warned him that the damage done to his pancreas was permanent, which finally gave Phil the push he needed to quit drinking. At least for a little while.
Nowadays, he supposedly has his drinking under control.
“I didn’t drink for all that time but now I am quite capable of having two or three glasses of wine, saying goodnight and walking away,” he told The Mirror.
In 2016 he reunited with his third wife and decided to come out of retirement.
By this point, however, he often needed assistance to walk and revealed that he was still unable to play the drums — although he was hopeful to still pull off the famous drum solo in “In The Air Tonight”.
However, in 2017, he was rushed to the hospital after slipping in his hotel room and badly hurt his head.
“Phil is in a bad way with his head in bandages. He is conscious and talking, but he is frustrated and upset about having to cancel in his gigs,” a source revealed .
“He is keen to get out performing again as soon as possible, but the fall was quite nasty and he needs time to heal and rest up,” the source added.
Thankfully, by 2019 Phil was back in good health, ready to get back on the road.
Thus commenced his comeback tour, cheekily titled “Not Dead Yet”.
Unfortunately, while playing a show in North Carolina, he fell backward in his chair, watching his son play the drums.
Video footage shows the audience in a panic after watching Phil accidentally rock backward in his chair onstage, landing flat on his back.
The singer managed to carry out the rest of the show as planned .
Fans are sending all their well-wishes to Phil after hearing about his tumble.
“Very sad to see a monster talent being reduced to this…must be so frustrating for him…go well Phil,” one fan wrote.
“Oh man, I didn’t know he was like this. All our thoughts to Phil!” said another.
It seems as though Phil has been able to bounce back from this and it hasn’t prevented the “Not Dead Yet” tour from continuing.
We’re wishing him a speedy recovery!
