The beautiful and talented, Anne Hathaway, was on the June cover of Tatler Magazine. As such, she also gave them an interview, and things got very real .
This may come as a surprise because we’ve hardly had any indication to assume otherwise, but Anne has given up alcohol entirely.

At the very first signs of alcoholism, she had the self-control and good sense to cut herself off — which, if you’ve ever tried to stop drinking, can be a very difficult thing to do.
She explained that alcohol was having an effect on her relationship with her son.

“My issue is I just love it,” she explained . “So much. But the way I do it makes me unavailable for my son.”
Another reason she’s broken up with alcohol is due to something that many of us can relate to.

“My last hangover lasted for five days. I’d earned it: It was a day-drinking session with friends that went into an evening birthday party with one of my drinking buddies,” she said .
She went on to explain that she knows she will never be the type of person who can moderate their drinking to a more reasonable amount — so she’s cut it out altogether.

“I will never be that person who can nurse a glass of wine throughout an entire evening,” she said .
The interviewer asked Anne what her life might be like if she had never pursued an acting career.

“I could have seen myself being a teacher,” she said . “Or going into the military. Or being some kind of do-gooder with a death wish.”
“But more likely than anything else I would have been an alcoholic,” she added.

If there is one thing we’re learning about Anne Hathaway right now, it’s that she is incredibly self-aware.
Around the same time she quit drinking, she decided to give herself some wiggle-room in other areas of her life, like food.

One fateful evening, having dinner with Matt Damon and her husband, after years of being a vegan , she figured it was time to allow herself to enjoy some meat.
If she couldn’t enjoy alcohol, she decided to indulge in other ways.
It’s called balance .
She explained that the men at the table were being very easygoing, telling the waiter they’d take whatever the chef wanted to serve them — Anne succumbed to the pressure.

“So then I was the only chick and I’m the vegan and everyone’s just going with the flow. So I asked [she puts on a small embarrassed voice]: ‘Is your fish local?'”
She added that eating meat for the first time in so long was a major shock to her system.
“And they said : ‘Do you see that fjord?’ So I had a piece of salmon and my brain felt like a computer rebooting.”
This actually hasn’t been the first time that Anne has mentioned parting ways with her drinking habits.

In January, Anne was a guest on The Ellen Show where she opened up about it in even more depth.
“I quit drinking back in October,” she told Ellen. “For 18 years. I’m gonna stop drinking while my son’s living in my house,”

“Just because I don’t totally love the way I do it. He’s getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the mornings .”
She even told Ellen about the very moment she realized that her drinking needed to be stopped.

“I did one school run one day where I dropped him off at school — I wasn’t driving, but I was hungover, and that was enough for me. I didn’t love that,” she explained .
Admitting when it’s time to lock up your liquor cabinet for good, and actually going through with it isn’t an easy thing.

Big kudos to Anne for knowing what’s best for her son and herself, and making the necessary changes.
I also applaud the fact that she was brave enough to open up about it the media.

Giving up such personal insight into your vices is practically asking for trolls to leave their judgemental remarks all over your social media.
Let us know what you think of Anne’s decision to quit drinking.

Although alcohol can be used in a social aspect and can definitely add a fun dynamic to many situations, it can also be taken too far and affect one’s health. So, good for Anne for recognizing those signs and doing the right thing for her and her family!
Of course, Anne now has another really good reason to quit drinking.
And it’s a reason to reset that 18 year timer until her son grows up and moves out of the house.
She’s pregnant again!

Anne announced her second pregnancy in an Instagram post on July 24th to tons of congratulatory messages from friends and fans alike.
Anne opened up about another struggle in the same post.

Her caption included, “All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.”
Anne got a lot of support from other women who have struggled with infertility.

Another wrote, “Thank you for your honesty. It’s funny how lots of peopl think getting pregnant is a breeze… in a perfect world right?”
Anne is always open with her struggles.

It’s so refreshing to see a celebrity who acknowledges that they’re not perfect and sometimes have to go through difficult times and make hard decisions!
She was also open about the struggles she faces with her body as an actress.

“One of the lucky things about being in this business for so long is that I’ve really kind of come to terms with the pressure that you get to look a certain way as an actress,” Anne said in an interview with Ellen last year.
“And I don’t beat myself up about any of that stuff anymore,” she continued.

“But after I had my son, the weight was really slow to come off and so I was a different size than I normally am.” Anne then revealed it was one of her Ocean’s 8 castmates who helped her feel confident again.
“And then Rihanna looks up and goes, ‘Damn girl, you got an ass!’ And I, of course, freaked out and loved it so much,” Anne gushed.

“I was like, ‘Really?!’ And she goes, ‘You got an ass like me!'” Anne continued.
Anne’s honesty and openness is so awesome to see. We all need a friend like Anne to help us keep it real (and a friend like Rihanna to build us up)!
