A lot of people spend many months saving up and preparing for a trip to Disneyland. The place is not just on the list of dream experiences for children but for many adults too.
A woman shared that her family had purchased $10,000 worth of gift cards for the most magical place on Earth, only to later find out they were gift cards for Disney’s streaming service, not the amusement park.
Gift cards are usually a joy
If you ever got given a gift card as a kid, it felt like you had the world’s treasures in your hands. Even as an adult, they can be a joy.
But you have to admit it’s not as fun if you get ones you wouldn’t use.
A trip to Disneyland can be expensive
The world-renowned amusement park is no cheap one; the most magical place on Earth is known for its magic, costing a pretty penny.
So when parents spend $10,000 for various amusements at Disneyland, it sort of makes sense.
A woman shared her parents paid for the wrong thing
Andie Coston shared the mishap on her TikTok platform, saying that her parents had intended to buy $10,000 worth of Disney gift cards for the 16-member family to enjoy their holiday.
The cards were also for the kids in the family to redeem them however they liked.
Think of all the potential for those gift cards
The eye-watering $10,000 in gift cards could have bought the kids anything they wanted at the amusement park.
From rides and shows to food and merchandise, the family could have had a blast! But unfortunately, the gift cards were for something else.
The gift cards were for streaming
After Coston’s mom bought the stack of gift cards with the purest of intentions — to help make the family vacation a magical one — they found out she had placed her credit elsewhere.
Instead, these gift cards were for Disney+, the company’s streaming service.
The vacation was planned for 2020
Coston’s family had originally planned their Disneyland trip for 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to reschedule.
This prompted her mother to buy the vouchers so that everyone could choose when to go.
Coston explained how it took place
In her video, Coston explained how she realized the gift cards were for Disney+, “We finally planned it for this Christmas. All 16 of my family members were going. To save some money, my parents bought 10k of Disney gift cards to purchase our tickets and restaurant reservations.”
She found out by accident
“I went home this weekend, and they were having problems loading the gift cards correctly and purchasing the tickets,” Coston shared.
It turns out, they had bought themselves 104 years’ worth of Disney+ streaming subscriptions but nothing that could buy Disneyland tickets.
The family sought out help from people online
As they posted to ask whether anyone knew how to turn the $10,000 into credit for the parks, many told them it was a lost cause as the numbers had been scratched off the back.
But the family reached out to Disney who managed to fix it.
The company fixed the issue for them
Disney responded to the family’s communication and managed to transfer the $10,000 into credit to be used at the parks instead of Disney+.
Coston was relieved by it, telling People, “I am so glad we were able to get it resolved, especially for my parent’s sake.”
