Hugh Jackman has responded to his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness’ statement on their 27-year-long marriage where she expressed that it was a ‘journey of betrayal.’
Furness filed for divorce
Deborra-Lee Furness, 69, filed for divorce on May 23, almost two years after announcing what seemed like an amicable separation between her and ex-husband actor Hugh Jackman.
As the divorce papers were finalized, Furness released a statement about the experience.
Furness called it a ‘wound’
In her statement on the marriage, the Australian actress reflected on finalizing the separation, describing it as the “breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage.”
She went on to say that in the aftermath of the marriage, she is navigating the “traumatic journey of betrayal,” and called it a “profound wound that cuts deep.”
Jackman responded to this
Following Furness’ statement on Tuesday, May 27, Jackman has reportedly responded to her comments about their former marriage.
A report by the Daily Mail which was released on Wednesday, May 28, cites an anonymous source close to Jackman who responded to Furness’ statement.
Jackman was ‘extremely disappointed’
The outlet reports that Jackman, 56, was blindsided by Furness’ description of their relationship, being “extremely disappointed” by what she had to say.
The source claimed it was uncalled for
The outlet’s source also claimed that “there was an unwritten understanding that she would not trash him to the press” and that Jackman “knows that he cannot change anything.”
The pair had announced their separation in 2023
With two kids between them, Jackman and Furness first announced their separation back in September 2023 with a joint statement.
In it the ex-couple said they “decided to separate to pursue our individual growth” following a “wonderful, loving marriage.”
Jackman stepped out with a girlfriend afterwards
In January 2025, Jackman stepped out with now-girlfriend Sutton Foster, 50, whom he shared a Broadway stage for The Music Man in 2022.
