Getting friendship involved in business can get messy — that’s why a lot of people will always argue against lending money to friends or hiring friends to work for you. Friendship getting involved in politics might be even messier, as presidential hopeful Kanye West and Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk might be finding out during this year’s election.
Kanye announced on Twitter early in July that he intended to run for President.
“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,” Kanye tweeted, including the hashtag “#2020Vision” to clarify that he did in fact mean this year.
At first, it seemed like Kanye’s friend and Tesla CEO Elon Musk was on board.
Kanye also revealed that Elon had been supporting this for longer than we knew about, saying “We’ve been talking about this for years.” Kanye also added “I proposed to him to be the head of our space program.”
However, after a controversial interview where Kanye claimed to be anti-vaccine and pro-life, Elon looks like he’s reconsidering.

After a fan tweeted the link to the controversial interview asking Elon if he still supported Kanye in the 2020 election, Elon replied “We may have more differences of opinion than I anticipated,” in a now-deleted tweet.
Kanye nor Elon have commented more on the situation.
However it does look like their very close friendship may not come into play when it comes to who Elon supports for President.
