Alright, so here we go, we’re going to talk the current Mulan cast. And trust me, you’re going to like what you see, because it looks cool.
Even if it isn’t a musical… ahem.
Yifei Liu is Mulan
But we’ve known this for a while now.
The b**t-kicking action star from a bunch of Chinese movies is going to be perfect for the Disney princess who becomes a warrior.
Xana Tang is Hua Xiu
Who, apparently, is Mulan’s sister! Wow!
I wonder how she’s going to come into play for the story… and man, it seems like they have a whole lot of moving parts here!
Jet Li is The Emperor
And I’m thinking that this version of The Emporer is going to be a lot more action prone than in the original.
I can see him kicking some b**t in the final war scene.
Yoson An is Chen Honghui
Who will be taking the role of love interest instead of Captain Li Shang.
Chen Honghui joins Commander Tung’s unit, and that’s how he meets and falls in love with Mulan.
Doua Moua is Po
And it’ll be hard to capture the same gentle, sweet tone of Chien-Po from the original…
however, Doua Moua does seem like a good choice and he is an accomplished actor.
Li Gong is Xian Lang
The character of Xian Lang was made up for the 2020 movie and she is a powerful witch, a new villain.
The good news is that I know that Li Gong is an accomplished actress. She’s probably best known for her role in Memoirs Of A Geisha .
Jason Scott Lee is Bori Khan
So Bori Khan is actually the Shan Yu replacement in the new live-action movie, and he sounds a little more complex.
The Wikia describes him as “a warrior leader who is intent on avenging his father’s death”.
Donnie Yen is Commander Tung
Who, apparently in this film, is going to be Mulan’s mentor.
I honestly have no idea what the story is going to be at this point and time… maybe it’s a mentor from flashbacks?
Nelson Lee is The Chancellor
Which I’m assuming might be a take on Chi-Fu?
I dunno, they haven’t cast Chi-Fu yet so I’m assuming that this “Chancellor” character might be his replacement… but who really knows?
Jimmy Wong is Ling
And I’m glad to see that Jimmy Wong is doing stuff outside of The Command Zone.
I’m glad to see his acting career is going well, and I’m excited to see him back on Game Knights.
Chen Tang is Yao
Ahh, Yao.
He was one of the funniest characters from the original, I hope that Chen Tang does a good job getting that same roughness across.
Utkarsh Ambudkar is Skatch
And not much is known about him except that he’s a bit of a con artist.
Who cares, if he’s as funny as he was in Game Over, Man! then I’m ready, baby.
Jun Yu is Cricket
Or, at least the voice of Cricket. Or, at least the cricket sounds of cricket.
I dunno, I have no idea why they cast a real-life human for this role.
Niki Caro is directing
And finally, we have Niki Caro at the helm.
She’s got a lot of good stuff under her belt, like Whale Rider , The Zookeeper’s Wife and McFarland .
Should be interesting to see how she takes on Mulan !
Tzi Ma is Hua Zhou
Which, apparently, is yet another character added to this new remake.
Don’t worry, Tzi Ma is a very competent actor. He’s been in a lot of stuff, including Arrival and Rush Hour .
Ron Yuan is Sergeant Qiang
Apparently, the character of Sergeant Qiang will be the second in command of the Imperial Regiment.
He is also described as “fiercely loyal”. Ooh, now that sounds very spicy indeed…
As for Ron Yuan…
He’s been in a whole bunch of stuff, and I’m sure will be a welcome addition to the movie.
As for what he’s been in specifically, oh just little known shows like Sons of Anarchy .
Roger Yuan is Duba Tegin
(No relation to Ron, as far as I know).
Anyways, Duba Tegin is yet another character added to the movie. As for Roger, he’s a man of many hats.
Those hats being: martial arts fight trainer, action coordinator, actor, writer, and producer.
Pei-Pei Cheng is The Matchmaker
As we saw in the most recent trailer, Pei-Pei Cheng will be playing The Matchmaker.
And I am absolutely certain that like Mulan herself, she as an actress will bring honor to us all.
However…
There’s no word on Mushu yet, which might take away from the serious tone this movie seems to be going for.
Maybe they won’t recast him at all, which would be a total bummer.
