Planning a wedding is hard, there’s no doubt about it. There’s a lot of elements that need coordinated and decided on, and a ton of variables that can mess things up on the day of.
One bride attempted to control one of those variables and assure she wasn’t shown up…by her fiancé’s daughter. The daughter was then stuck in a tricky spot and is unsure if she did the right thing.

Everybody wants their wedding to be perfect.
Some go to farther reaches to attain that perfection, though, making increasingly ridiculous demands of their parties and their guests.
Some brides make demands that are just too much for guests, and they don’t handle the backlash well.
A 15-year-old girl took to Reddit recently to ask if she was in the right regarding her father’s wedding.
She begins her post like this, “Dad (42) and my his fiancee (Alice 28) are getting married in November this year. I (15f) didn’t really like Alice because I think she replaced my mom too soon. My mom died of cancer 2 years ago and she and dad started dating 8 months after. I try to be as polite as I can whenever she’s around or starts a conversation with me. Dad never forced me to have a relationship with her and I can also see that she’s not interested in having one.”
She says Alice approached her recently and asked three things of her for the wedding.
The requests were for her to cut her hair short, not wear heels, and not wear false lashes. She said she could do the last two, but she wouldn’t be cutting her hair.
“My mom loves my hair and helped me grow them thick and healthy. I got my blonde wavy hair from my mom so I will keep it long.”
Her step-mother-to-be was not happy about this.
“Alice accused me of wanting to upstage her. I said that’s not what I’m trying to do and I think it’s unfair since I know she didn’t make these demands on her other female guests. She then called me a selfish brat and told me she’ll tell my dad about how I ‘disrespected her’.”
Then her dad got involved, but didn’t side with her.
“My dad then got involved and told me to just cut my hair because it will grow back anyway. I said her request is ridiculous and I’d rather not attend their wedding than to cut my hair.”
She said she’s worried she’s put her dad in a tough spot because of this as he really wants her at the wedding. She asked for others’ opinions on what she should do.
The comments delivered a unanimous judgement saying she should not cut her hair.
” Do not cut your hair ,” insisted one user, “Punishment haircuts are real, and it sounds like your [asshole] step-mother just wants to hurt and humiliate you. Your Dad’s a real [asshole] too for supporting this ridiculous demand from a woman who is twice your age who hilariously thinks you’re trying to upstage her. Someone here is a ‘selfish brat’ but it certainly isn’t you.”
Another wrote, “Your body, your choice. If Alice is worried about being upstaged by a 15-year-old girl, she’s got bigger issues than hair style.”
In an update, she said she would *not* be cutting her hair.
She thanked all the people who commented and encouraged her to continue sticking up for herself, saying she’ll likely stay with her mom’s sister the day of the wedding instead.
This lesson and the support she got will stick with her forever, helping her remain a strong advocate for herself in the future!
