Dakota Johnson sat down with *Marie Clare* magazine for their 2020 summer issue back in February, you know, when life was still kinda normal.
During the interview , the topic of Dakota’s struggle with mental illness came up, to which the actress said she views as a blessing.
“I’m constantly thinking about the state of the world right now. It keeps me up at night, all night, every night,” she said.
“My brain goes to crazy dark places with it… My brain moves at a million miles per minute.”
“I have to do a lot of work to purge thoughts and emotions, and I am in a lot of therapy.”
“I’ve struggled with d********n since I was young — since I was 15 or 14,” she told the publication.
“That was when, with the help of professionals, I was like, ‘Oh, this is a thing I can fall into.’ But I’ve learned to find it beautiful because I feel the world.”
“I guess I have a lot of complexities, but they don’t pour out of me,” she explained.
“I don’t make it anyone else’s problem.”
Unfortunately, Dakota’s take on mental illness upset a lot of Twitter users.
“I’ve fought with clinical d********n my whole life,” shared one user.
“I would never call being unable to derive hope, joy, or pleasure from anything as ‘feeling the world.’ It’s so pretty my brain can’t get the dopamine it needs!”
Some even began to speculate that the actress doesn’t even struggle with d********n.
“She doesn’t have d********n. Feelings of melancholy isn’t d********n and I doubt anyone with d********n would describe the feelings as ‘beautiful’.”
However, some people understood where Dakota was coming from.
“People need to read the entire interview to understand the context, she’s speaking in her case. It’s the way she’s dealing with the problem, finding the beautiful things, or seeing all the things, situations, and people in the most positive way helps,” explained one fan.
Even though the internet is once again divided on a controversial subject, the one thing that should always remain clear is how important it is to take care of our mental health!
