Graduating from high school is a very special experience for many teenagers. It’s the gateway into the world of adulthood, where many will go off to college and start their life without their parents. Working hard and earning a high school diploma is, of course, always something that should be celebrated, as parents try to make the moment memorable for their children.
For many parents, it’s an emotional moment.
Seeing your kids grow from little kindergarteners to high school graduates really indicates that they are growing up and moving on into the real world. It’s a moving time for everyone.
To celebrate, many parents try to give sentimental and meaningful gifts.
From customized jewelry to big gifts like cars, parents want their children to know how proud of them they are and how special this moment truly is for both their graduates and them.
One dad recently gifted his daughter, who graduated high school, with one of the most sentimental gifts we’ve ever seen.
The gift was 13 years in the making, quite literally. This dad went absolutely all out with trying to make sure that the gift was meaningful, special, and truly something his daughter could cherish forever.
At first, his daughter thought it was just a book.
The graduate wrote on Imgur :
“I graduated High School this week. When my Dad said he had a present for me I thought I was getting some cheesy graduation card. But what I received was something truly priceless. Following the ceremony, he handed me a bag with a copy of ‘Oh the Places You’ll Go’, by Doctor Seuss inside. At first, I just smiled and said that it meant a lot and that I loved that book.”
However, when she opened it, she realized it was so much more.
“But then he told me “No, open it up.” …On the first page, I see a short paragraph written by none other than my kindergarten teacher. I start tearing up but I’m still confused. He tells me, ‘Every year, for the past 13 years, since the day you started kindergarten I’ve gotten every teacher, coach, and principal to write a little something about you inside this book.”‘
Obviously, this is a touching and sentimental present.
She continued:
“He managed to keep this book a secret for 13 years, and apparently everyone else in my life knew about it! Yes the intended effect occured… I burst out in tears. Sitting there reading through this book there are encouraging and sweet words from every teacher I love and remember through my years in this small town.”
Some of the comments were so sweet, but they grew as his daughter did, too.
“My early teachers mention my ‘Pigtails and giggles,’ while my high school teachers mention my ‘Wit and sharp thinking..’ But they all mention my humor and love for life. It is astounding to receive something this moving, touching, nostalgic, and thoughtful.”
Clearly, this is something she will cherish for the rest of her life.
The “labor of love,” as she called it, was something that she can keep with her for the rest of her life and always look back on to know how many people truly cherished her and appreciated her.
What a beautiful gift from Dad!
