Everyone knows that when you have a baby, you can expect nice things to get, well, ruined. Kids are known to poop, pee, spit-up, and vomit on just about everything.
That’s why new moms know never wear anything “nice” around their babies.
It’s only a matter of time before it gets dirty and destroyed.
Recently, one mom was faced with a crazy dilemma when her cousin came to visit her newborn.
While throwing her special “baby ceremony” where everyone in her family would come and meet her daughter, her cousin, Alice, was faced with a big problem.
According to the Reddit mom, when her cousin held her daughter, the baby vomited right on her cousin’s blouse.
Her cousin didn’t take it too well, either. She reportedly, “spent the whole night crying in her car.”
Then, the mom got a call from her cousin, asking for money to replace her shirt.
“Today I got a call from my mum, saying that she’d been on the phone to her sister (Alice’s mum) saying that they want me to reimburse the cost of the blouse (roughly £1800) since it was completely ruined.”
That comes out to $2,200 American dollars… for a shirt.
For context, the mom explained that her cousin has expensive taste.
“My cousin Alice and her parents were among the guests. The first thing I’ll say about her is that she has expensive taste. She’s the sort of person who has a minimum price range for how much she spends on clothing.
She doesn’t own anything that isn’t designer and has some items of clothing that cost thousands. She is a banker and still lives with parents so can afford the lifestyle.”
Regardless, the mom said “no.”
“At the end of the day we all know what babies can be like. She took a risk wearing something so expensive knowing a baby was nearby and unfortunately it backfired. I feel bad for her but it was not my fault.”
She asked people online if she was wrong for saying no.
Many people agreed that she was right.
“Common sense to not wear expensive clothing around newborns unless you are okay with risking this happening. She should have known better,” said one comment.
Others said it’s on her cousin.
“Not only is Alice an a******, but an idiot for wearing expensive clothing around a month-old baby,” said one Reddit user in their response.
There were, however, some people who said she was wrong.
“I get what you are saying, but how far do you take this? If your child breaks someone’s property, do you say, “Well, we know what kids are like”? I don’t know this person, but maybe you should’ve given her a spit-up rag or something to cover herself with,” another user said.
Another said instead of replacing the shirt entirely, just dry-clean it.
“Pay for dry cleaning. That’s the mentality of the kind of mother who lets her kids f*** up the supermarket and just walks away.”
