When was the last time you went to a gender reveal party? They seem to be less popular among younger parents, but for every couple that decides not to host one, there’s another that feels the need to make theirs extremely over the top.
Like one couple in Brazil who thought it was smart to dye an entire waterfall for their gender reveal, thus contaminating the water supply of a village during a drought.
A couple in Brazil is in hot water for how they chose to conduct a gender reveal.

So much so that the government is on their case.
Brazil’s environment ministry is investigating a couple that dyed a waterfall blue to reveal the gender of their baby.
Why is it such a big deal?

Considering where they held the reveal and the dye they used, they likely contaminated the water supply of a nearby town that relies on the river that the waterfall flows into, named Queima Pé.
Not to mention said town, Tangará da Serra, is also facing a drought right now, making this doubly awful.
The video has gone viral.

People across the internet are blasting this couple after they posted the reveal to their own Instagram, showing their guests cheering when the waterfall turned a bright, unnatural blue.
They’ve since deleted the post, but it’s far too late, as copies have made the rounds and drawn ire from every corner of the internet.
This isn’t the first time chaos has come from a gender reveal.

From earthquakes to wildfires , gender reveal parties have led to quite a bit of ecological destruction.
As one comment on the waterfall video read, “What happened to cutting into a cake. Why does nature keep getting damaged because these people think they’re special?”
