If you were one of the most famous celebrities in the world, would you use your wealth and influence for personal gain or to make the world a better place? I think I would try to do both, but the temptation to worry about me myself and I only would be pretty tempting.
In case you needed any more reasons that Cher is a better person than I am, this should be enough!
Cher made headlines late last year when she helped relocate Kaavan, the ‘World’s Loneliest Elephant,’ who had been living in poor conditions in Pakistan since 1985.
Cher, who had been petitioning for Kaavan’s release since 2016 as part of her work with the organization Free The Wild, which she cofounded, tweeted that they had been successful in getting permission to relocate Kaavan to Cambodia.
But Cher’s work isn’t done there! Free The Wild is already trying to rescue the next lonely elephant, Lucy!
“Born in 1975, Lucy is an Asian elephant who has lived in the sub-artic conditions of Canada for over 40 years. She has never been with another Asian elephant and her only companion was taken away in 2006. Edmonton Valley Zoo’s limited operating times means even the company of humans is few and far between,” Free The Wild writes.
Free The Wild revealed that Cher sent a personal letter to the mayor of Edmonton and and the director of the Edmonton Valley Zoo.
The website states that Cher “offered to send an independent elephant expert vet to examine Lucy and determine the genuine status of her health,” and that “we were notified that our expert vet’s credentials will be considered to jointly assess Lucy’s condition at her next evaluation.”
We’re definitely on Cher’s team for this elephant rescue too!
Seriously — Cher looks amazing, sounds amazing, is as whip-smart and hilarious as ever, and she’s rescuing elephants? If she wants to make me look bad, all she has to do is pick one of those things, and she’s doing all three!
