The world-renowned singer Céline Dion and her family honor her late husband René Angélil nine years after losing him to throat cancer at the age of 73.
The My Heart Will Go On singer shared a heartbreaking message to her late husband on social media, showing her and the family’s eternal love for him, almost a decade after his passing.
She posted a photo with their sons
Dion took to Instagram to share the message on January 14th, René Angélil’s ninth death anniversary, with a photo of her and their three sons; René-Charles Angélil, 23, and the 14-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy Angélil.
The family members appeared dressed in matching white outfits.
The caption was heartbreaking
Under the warm family photo, Dion wrote a heart-wrenching message, saying, “René, we can’t believe you’ve been gone nine years already.”
“Not a day goes by that we don’t feel your presence, RC, Eddy, Nelson and I,” she lovingly added.
Dion honors her late husband in the message
“You were my greatest champion, my partner, and the one who always saw the best in me,” the “To Love You More” singer wrote.
“I honor you and you are forever missed mon amour…. We love you,” she wrote before signing off the message with her name and kisses.
She had put in great effort to take care of him
Céline and René had gotten married in 1994, with the latter falling ill twenty years later in 2014.
When this happened, Céline cancelled her Las Vegas residency at the time to stay and take care of René. She remained his caregiver until he passed.
Dion had shared what it was like
After her husband’s passing, the singer shared how hard it was to witness his health decline, telling People in 2017, “We were living in hope, knowing that there’s no hope.”
“There were times when I was very, very scared and he’d write me ‘The end is near, I feel it.’”
She later shared another update on her journey
She had shared an update on the heartbreaking experience of mourning her husband a year after his passing, telling E! News, “It’s been a tough journey.”
“Like I say, many times, many people go through this, and you see your husband suffer for three years, and it’s not what you want to see,” she shared.
Dion said they still feel his presence
“So now I know he is well, and we live with him in a different way. And I see him through the eyes of my children every single day,” the Love Again singer added of her struggle mourning her husband.
The singer has found comfort in her family
Dion, who has been battling an autoimmune and neurological condition called stiff-person syndrome, has been relying on her family for support.
She shared that her sons have remained an important anchor as the memory of their father still lives within them.
Dion shared her journey with the disease
The singer had written about her battle with the illness in an Instagram post in March, sharing, “Trying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible.”
She came back to the stage after a four-year break
“I am deeply grateful for the love and support from my kids, family, team and all of you!” the Power Of Love singer had continued in the Instagram post.
Four years after having taken a break from singing, the artist returned to the stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, performing Hymne A L’Amour at the Eiffel Tower.
