Cardi B has been on a roll lately. Not with her music — with social issues.
First, she met up with US Senator Bernie Sanders . Now, she’s sharing some home truths about what it was like to be a teenage smoker, and how much she regrets it.
Cardi B contains multitudes , y’all.
Cardi B is known for being brutally honest.

She doesn’t hide any part of herself, which is both a blessing and a curse.
It’s a blessing because her unfiltered thoughts can contain real-life lessons.
It’s a curse, because I had to see her feet all swollen from a combination of plastic surgery and flying, and I may never recover.
And whether anyone likes it or not, she’s a role model.

Even if Cardi herself doesn’t like it, being a role model is part and parcel of being a celebrity.
Being in the public eye comes with the ability to influence others.
She took to Twitter and Instagram to share some past pictures.

Though she wound up deleting her Instagram post, her Twitter post remains up.
The pictures she pulled up were from when she was 15, covered in piercings, and very into smoking.
Something about this picture is so…vintage.

So, as Cardi wrote on Twitter:
“15 year old Cardi …Dear little girls don’t smoke cigarettes or weed trying to look cool for the seniors cause you really gonna grow up and see how dumb you look doing it […]”
She also made a lot of fun of her past self.

“Seriously tho what was I thinking? anyways naaa my mustache was too much.”
People didn’t seem to understand what she was trying to say, however, and began clapping back at her.
A misunderstanding occurred within minutes.

“Cardi do you be hearing the things that comes out of your mouth?” A Twitter user wrote.
Cardi saw the Tweet and decided that she needed to clarify, so she quoted it.
She meant it as a lesson.

“YES! Very clear I was a teenager and I used to smoke like ALOT OF TEENS and now I’m telling teens that smoking while you under 18 really make you look stupid and ADULTS really think you look STUPID !”
I mean…she’s right.
The next day, she decided to address her piercings.

I just want to say: this is Cardi, so you’re going to have to really translate some of this. I believe in you. I know that you can do it.
People made a lot of assumptions after she posted those pictures.

“A lot of people keep saying Deum “ya parents let you do w.e you want[“] but in reality I was raised in the MOST STRICT HOME EVER!”
Basically, Cardi was not pleased that people thought she had it easy.
Her piercings required a lot of maintenance.

“I couldn’t even go to the movie theatres with my friends or nothing. Every day it was a challenge taking my piercings off and setting an alarm clock for 3am to put them back on to go to school with them.”
She got on the right track.

“I used to be so rebellious cause all my friends use to have the ultimate freedom. Till this day now I’m so happy my parents we’re very strict cause if they wasn’t I would have been dead, my face cut or a teenage mom and I would have never experienced college or I would have dropped out fo High school I thank my parents for that everyday.”
That strict parenting saved her life.

“I told my mom once I wanted to go to the movies once and she said NO I really wanted to go to a party tho 😉 Thst same party [expletive] shot that [expletive] up like crazy!”
Cardi also clarified that the pictures didn’t tell the whole story.

“I always told my stories tho so don’t let pictures with piercings fool ya. Anyways KIDS there’s a difference between ABUSE and being STRICT. My parents were very strict and I’m thankful. Being strict it’s a form of love and protection.”
Listening to her parents was actually the smartest thing she did as a teenager.

“Girls around my age were growing too fast and I though I could fool my momma but boy o boy she be knowing. If it wasn’t for the voice of my parents in the back off my head my life would have been way different.”
She hopes she can do something like that for her daughter.

“I hope when I’m strict to my daughter I hope she don’t think I’m “mean” “ or I hate her “ like I used to think of my parents I’m just not trying to lead my kid in the wrong direction these roads have to offer.”
