True crime is one of the most popular genres in movies and television. There's something about the allure and mystery of a cold case that captivates audiences all over the world.

Below is a list of 15 unsolved crime mysteries that are still keeping me up at night. So pull out your magnifying glass and rubber gloves because the game is most definitely afoot!

The disappearance of Asha Degree

9-year-old Asha Degree walked out of her home in the middle of the night and proceeded to walk down a long rural highway. After being spotted by a truck driver, she ran into the woods and was never seen again.

Jack the Ripper

Jack the Ripper killed five prostitutes on the streets of London, UK, from August 7th to Sept. 8th, 1888. All the murders took place within one mile of each other, and during this time, "Jack" sent taunting letters to the police.

The murder of Tupac Amaru Shakur

To this day, 2Pac is considered to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. He was murdered in a drive-by shooting at the age of 25. No arrests were made and no suspects were named.

The Ghost Ship of the Mary Celeste

On December 4, 1872, the Mary Celeste was found abandoned and floating along the Atlantic Ocean. The ship was perfectly seaworthy and all provisions were intact. The only clue was a single missing lifeboat, which appeared to have been boarded in an orderly fashion. No survivors were ever found.

In 2014, the Broaddus family was set to move into their dream home at 657 Blvd. in Westfield, NJ. Prior to their move, they began receiving threatening letters from someone calling himself The Watcher. He knew the names of their children, where they slept, and even their birthdates.

The Black Dahlia Murder

On January 15, 1947, 22-year-old Elizabeth Short was found cut in half, drained of her blood, and her face cut into an eery smile from ear-to-ear. Although many suspects were named, no one was ever prosecuted for the crime.

The Axeman of New Orleans

In 1918, New Orleans was haunted by a serial killer known only as "The Axe Man." In 18 months, there were 12 attacks and six deaths. He only attacked while his victims were asleep and he only used weapons that he found on the premises.

The tale of Terror and Erebus

Back in 1845, the Terror and Erebus set sail from Great Britain in an attempt to find the final leg of the North-West Passage and were marooned in ice. To this day, nobody knows what happened to the 129 men aboard.

The Gardner Museum Heist

On March 18, 1990, two men dressed as police officers handcuffed the two guards on duty at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. They made off with 13 paintings totaling $500 million. The museum has offered a $10 million reward.

What in the world happened to Jimmy Hoffa?

Jimmy Hoffa was the former President of the Teamsters Union and for years he helped the mob funnel money through its pension. In 1976, the largest Teamsters pension fund was robbed and Hoffa vanished with no trace.

Tom Thomson was a Canadian painter, as well as an unofficial member of "The Group of Seven." He went missing on Algonquin Park's Canoe Lake over a hundred years ago. His canoe was found, but his body was never seen again.

Elisa checked into the Cecil Hotel on January 26th, 2013. She was found naked and floating in the hotel's water tank atop the roof of the building 18 days later. Footage shows Lam talking to herself in an elevator and moving her hands in strange ways.
