18 Trends We Saw Come And Go This Past Year

We all know that trends come and go, but I have to say I wish some of them would go away forever, hee-hee. Do you get what I'm saying?

Therefore, I thought it would be fun to go through some of the weirdest styles in both fashion and beauty we have seen this past year. So let me know which one is "yay" or "nay" in your playbook.

1. The Hoodie/Blazer Combo

I don't know about you, but lately, I love to dress sporty. It's really comfortable and easy to pull off. However, I'm not sure about mixing a hoodie with a blazer. It's like you can't decide whether you want to be lazy or fashionable. What do you think, huh?

2. Bucket Hats

So I admit I jumped on the whole bucket hat trend. But there's one thing I forgot — I have a small head, so it's hard to find hats that look good on me, ha, ha! And now I have like four bucket hats lying in my closet. Oh, yeah!

3. Matching Two-Piece Sets

If you think this trend is new, think again. Do you remember Gwyneth Paltrow in Great Expectations or Alicia Silverstone in Clueless? Oh, yeah! If you can pull this off, hats to you, my friend. I'll be watching from the sidelines.

4. Tube Tops

Oh, no! Say it isn't so. I hope I'm losing my mind and not seeing that the dreaded tube tops are back in fashion now. Why? This was a terrible idea when it first came out, so why is it coming back? Why?

5. Cropped Cardigan

Just like the tube top, I just don't get the whole cropped cardigan look. I think it might be cute of a young girl but on a grown woman? I don't think so, but then again, I might be the only one who thinks so.

6. Neon Nails

I don't know about you, but neon was never my favorite color trend. And when I see it applied on nails like this, I still don't dig it at all. I guess I'm more subtle when it comes to something like this.

7. Low-Rise Jeans

Here's another blast from the past I'd like to forget. Ladies and gentlemen, the low-rise jeans are back. Even though I can't jump on the high-rise bandwagon, the low-rise isn't any better than that. Don't go that rabbit hole — just don't.

8. The Modern Mullet

I already told you before that a mullet wasn't cool when it first came out. So why are people bringing it back now? I have no idea, and I'm totally not behind it at all. Case closed!

9. Boiler Suits

What I like about this style is how easy it is to pull off alright. It takes the stress out of picking both pants and a shirt, so there's that. However, my only issue with it is what happens when you have to pee? I went there, okay?

10. The Wet Hair Look

Yes, this one is exactly what it sounds like. It's basically a style where your hair looks like you just got out of the shower. There is one good thing about it — it's definitely a minimalist style, ha, ha! But that's about it, right?

11. The Shacket

I must admit the first time I heard the word "shacket," I was like, come again? I didn't get it. The whole idea baffled me. However, lately, I have seen some very cute versions of this trend, so I'm not totally dismissing it.

12. Faux Freckles

If you have natural freckles, good for you, but if you think you can use makeup to fool the rest of us, good luck. Or worse yet, don't go under the tattoo needle either, alright? I know you'll be sorry later, ha, ha! This idea is just so weird!

13. Duck Nails

Okay, I've seen this look before, but until now, I didn't know there was a name for it, lol. This Y2K-inspired look popularized by TV's Snooki can't seem to go away quietly. I, for one, don't want to see it anymore, and you?

14. Puff Sleeves

If you're a petite girl like me, puff sleeves aren't the perfect trend for you. There's no way I'm going to make my arms look bigger than I am. This wouldn't help anyone who's vertically challenged.

15. Graphic Eyeliner

First of all, I stopped wearing eyeliner a long time ago. I just can't be bothered, lol. But if you must wear it then don't do it this way. I don't think this is a sane look on anyone.

16. Tractor Boots

If you live on a farm, then, by all means, wear tractor boots, alright. But if this is just a fashion statement you're trying to make — it isn't a good one. I'll take ankle booties over this one any day.

17. Nap Dress

The idea of the nap dress is that you can just easily fall asleep wearing it. But the reality is much different. And why you need to look like a little girl to do so eludes me.

18. Von Dutch Hats

These hats were a staple in the early 2000s, and for some reason in 2021, everyone decided to dig them out of their closets and wear them again. Hopefully, they will be returning to people's closets soon.

So which one of these trends do you think is the weirdest?

Are you happy that some of them are making a comeback, or do you want them to disappear, never to return again? Don't be shy. We are all friends here. It doesn't matter if you're sporting a boiler suit right now, hee-hee.
