We deal with enough badly optimized, poorly thought-out designs in our day-to-day lives. But that doesn't mean that all designs are dumb. In fact, some are quite clever! Let's take a few minutes to appreciate some of the better ones out there.
This is one of the most brilliant cottage inventions I've ever seen. Everyone can appreciate sitting on a deck in an Adirondack chair, but with this clever addition, there's no need to lug down a chair. Hopefully it's comfy.
Having shelves that look like they came out of a poorly optimized video game isn't exactly my aesthetic, but if it was my aesthetic, this would be the perfect piece to have.
I'm a sucker for creative business cards, and this is most certainly a creative business card. Not only is the shape perfect, it even has the little perforated ridges along one side.
I'm a little creeped out by the fact that it looks like each Lego head is sweating out their skin tone, but other than that this is a pretty cool little installation. It's much more interesting than plain bollards.
Urinals don't need to be fancy. They have one job, and for the most part, they tend to do it well. Still, that doesn't mean I can't appreciate this fun design.
I'll level with you: I don't know what Schwebebahn or Wuppertal even mean. What I do know, though, is that this is a super cool design for a metro system. It looks like something from fifty years into the future.
I appreciate not just the fact that these are expansive, comfy-looking benches with plenty of coverage from the elements, but also the fact that they occupy such a unique shape in the tunnel. It's certainly eye-catching.
This poster does amazing things with negative space. Some folks will notice the apple core first, while others might see the silhouettes. In any event, I can't think of a more clever way to display the Snow White mythology.
This is an elegant way to organize stuff while you're trying it on in the store, but it could have an application at home, too. I'd love a hanger with 'Clean', 'Worn once', and 'Sorta clean, sorta dirty' in my bedroom.
I don't know anything about Lithuania, really, but after seeing this pic I can be quite certain that Lithuanian grocery stores give our bags that are way more interesting than what's seen in North America.
Moe is a bartender, not a firefighter, so I'm experiencing a bit of dissonance over how he's portrayed here. Still, I'm a sucker for wall art intersecting with real items, so I'll have to let this one slide.
It looks a little bit like some poor soul was transformed into a lamppost for all eternity, but once you get past that, it's a pretty cool design. There aren't nearly enough public benches with awnings on them.
The classic London Underground logo is essentially the circle icon from a PlayStation controller, so this just takes things to the next logical step. I wonder how much Sony paid for the privilege.
Libraries are often cramped, unspectacular buildings, but central libraries have been known to get a little more creative with their appearance. Case in point: these unique benches, which form what could be an amazing reading circle.
I don't know if it would work quite as well as the pictures suggest, but it's certainly an impressive attempt to solve a problem that every chef experiences practically every day. I'd be interested in seeing this in action.
It wouldn't be so easy to replicate this if you were in a hurry, but as it's shown here, this is pretty much the perfect way to gather in all those unsightly charging cables.
A pessimist might think that this glass is half empty due to its unique design. An optimist, on the other hand, would say that it's half full, and that it hardly matters because the design is so cool.
Halloween food is typically normal food that's been doctored to look spooky. I think this is a far more elegant approach to seasonal cuisine. I mean, just look at it: it even has its own lid.
Sure, most bikes have kickstands already, but these things can be finicky at times. This bench incorporates rock-solid bike stands right into its design without sacrificing any of its functionality as a bench. It's understated but very useful.
Lego knows exactly what it's doing with this vending machine. A well-timed Lego gift could turn what would be an otherwise nightmarish flight with the kids into one that's totally serene.
