20 Oddities That Show Us The World In Ways We Don't Usually See

The world is a pretty big place, but there are still a lot of things out there that feel a little "been there, done that." That's why it's nice to get a fresh perspective on things.

And this list is chock full of fresh perspectives. It goes to show you that there's still plenty of unique experiences, if you know where to look.

"Ghostly halo in the evening sky over Beijing, China."

The night sky in Beijing, where it's overcast. A circular break in the clouds glows from the light of the moon.
reddit | TheAcademy_

I'm not totally sure what's going on here, like if it's the light from the moon or aliens or what. But it's still super cool. And probably not all that dangerous.

"The way this tree I found on a walk has grown around a drainage pipe."

The bottom section of a tree, where the trunk has grown around a large drainage pipe that crosses next to it.
reddit | Bcart

Trees will grow around anything that gets too close, huh. I've never seen one grow around something as big as a pipe, though.

"Brooklyn Bridge this morning."

The Brooklyn Bridge seen from below. Fog in the air makes it look like the bridge is endless.
reddit | Trillberg

It's funny how an angle can change everything. And fog, too. It looks like the bridge goes on forever, like you get on and then you can never get back off again.

"My sister’s blood circulation makes it look like her middle finger belongs to someone else."

A hand with Reynaud's disease on just one finger, making it significant paler than the rest of the hand.
reddit | justlollygagging

I know that Reynaud's cuts circulation off in your hands when you get cold, but I never thought it could only affect one finger. It almost seems scarier that way.

"My wife likes fruit in bed every night, recently I decided to start having fun with it."

An elaborate plate of sliced apples, strawberries, raspberries, and grapes, arranged in a "tower" in the middle.
reddit | hartmanwhistler

It's amazing how many different shapes you can make with sliced fruit. Also, this is a really cute way to surprise your wife.

"Chewie had a rough go at the groomers."

A black and white dog with curly fur over the face, and smooth fur over the body.
reddit | zerosynchrate

Man, this poor dog came out of the groomers looking like two different dogs photoshopped together. But that fur will all grow back soon, right?

"My girlfriend eats her avocado like this."

A hollowed out avocado with a spoon inside.
reddit | Harryrulez

This is... a really unique way to eat an avocado. I can't say I'm mad, but I'm also confused. Like, how do you get the pit out when you eat it like that?

"The way the ice formed on the lug nuts on my work truck."

A vehicle wheel with ice sticking out of the lug nuts.
reddit | Fantastic_Fro

I've never seen this happen on the wheel of any vehicle before, but I guess it makes sense. Probably one of the cooler things that can happen during winter.

"Two swans and a tower block."

Two swans standing in front of water, across from a building that looks small in comparison to them.
reddit | IchBinGen

I love it when perspective makes random things look so huge. Like the swans, which are totally just regular swans, but look huge because of that building in the background.

"My wife saw this tree growing entirely on a wall."

A brick wall with a tree growing out of it, roots visible in the middle of the wall. A crane sits next to the tree.
reddit | water_aspirant

That honestly doesn't look like it should be allowed to happen. But I guess trees just kind of do their own thing, and we'd be pretty foolish to try and question it.

"White Lego bricks randomly yellowed since the eighties."

A small Lego house with yellowed-white bricks and a red roof.
reddit | bartoncls

It's almost hard to believe that those bricks were all the same color at one point. But I guess that's what 40 years of discoloration does to a thing.

"A Gecko with a new tail."

A pink, scaly gecko with a smooth tail.
reddit | tgpmgs

Okay, that's actually kind of freaky. Like, it's so weird how some lizards can just grow a whole new tail. At some point, I'm sure this one's tail will start looking like the rest of its body.

"An old tobacco barn covered in poison ivy during an ice storm."

An old farm building covered in branches that are in turn covered in ice.
reddit | Vorengard

That's so cool! And only a tiny bit terrifying. I can definitely say that I've never seen a building that's looked like this one before. The poison ivy detail makes me creeped out AND itchy.

"These two colours seem to come out of opposite tubes."

Two different shades of purple paint tubes. The paint inside each tube matches the opposite tube's colour.
reddit | wurmzilla

I wonder if that was some kind of misprint. I'd definitely hate it if the paint I wanted to use was a different shade from what the tube was showing, but at least this worked out.

"The way these sardines are packaged with transparent lid."

A hand holding a can of sardines that are packaged neatly in the water.
reddit | P34nU7

Wait, that's actually so cool! It almost makes it look like there's a magnifying glass on top of the sardines.

I don't know if I'd want to bring that home, though.

"Chessboard for 3 Players."

A 3-sided chessboard with white, black, and red pieces. A paper sign in the middle reads, "The most dangerous game. Chess for three players."
reddit | henry_gindt

I've heard of 3D chess, but never 3-sided chess. I believe that sign that says it's the most dangerous game.

Seriously, regular chess is hard enough!

"This plant that formed its roots to this vase."

A small, flask-shaped vase. Next to it, a hand holds a small plant that has roots in the shape of the bottom of the vase.
reddit | D-va_mech

I honestly shouldn't be surprised by this, because where else would the roots go? But at the same time, I'm a little surprised by this.

"They look happy."

A man in a subway with a clear backpack on his back. Two birds sit in the backpack.
reddit | karmagheden

I can confidently say that this is the first time I've ever seen someone carry birds around on their back like this. I agree, though. They do seem happy.

"Had some down time at work today so I decided to take a few pictures. These are my favorites!" (pt. 1)

A top down view of an electrical tower, showing the middle of the tower.
reddit | DrBreveStule

According to OP, this is a 5G communication tower. I'm betting this kind of sight is a first for most of us.

"Had some down time at work today so I decided to take a few pictures. These are my favorites!" (pt. 2)

An aerial view of a highway, showing a few trucks driving and the surrounding fields during the winter/early spring.
reddit | DrBreveStule

The fact that this picture was taken by a person in a tower is honestly kind of frightening to me. I can't imagine being that high up, even if I got paid for it!
