As we all know by now, s*x scenes on TV shows are not nearly as steamy to film as they are to watch. If anything, they’re the complete opposite. As we all know, one of the shows with the best intimate scenes is Bridgerton . Now, this is of course because of the amazing-looking actors, but also because of their intimate coaches on set. Oh… and because of a half-inflated sports ball.
In case you missed the memo, eldest Bridgerton brother Lord Anthony will be this season’s hunky male lead.
While fans got to see a glimpse into his personal life last year, season 2 will explore his quest to find love.
Actor Jonathan Bailey spoke with “Radio Times” about how the show manages to get those picture-perfect s*x scenes.
“It’s amazing how that whole industry has just come on, even in a year,” he explained, according to UpRoxx .
“There are new tricks to the trade [like] little cushions, and it’s amazing what you can do with a half-inflated netball.”
In case you’re wondering, Netball is a sport that is kind of like is basketball, so just imagine a deflated basketball.
“If there are two people doing a s*x scene, the rule is they must have three barriers separating them,” he added.
“And there are certain acts where a half-inflated netball can allow for movement without having to connect physically.”
Bailey’s co-star, Simone Ashley, has also had a positive experience filming ‘Bridgerton’s raunchier scenes.
Ashley plays Kate Sharma in the show, and also spoke to UpRoxx about never having felt nervous. “I wasn’t apprehensive. I’ve always been really confident in my sexuality and in my body. Like most teenage girls, there were years where I was insecure and in my head about myself, but I’ve learnt to really have fun with it, enjoy myself, and love myself more,” she said.
“I am also confident that I can speak up if I’m not feeling comfortable with anything on set.”
“We were in a very safe environment, and we worked with an incredible intimacy coordinator who encouraged us to portray what it is for the female character to experience pleasure. That’s important for us to see, because it’s not like it doesn’t happen.”
Those positive feelings aren’t just about the s*x scenes in general, but also working with Bailey.
About him, she said, “I felt very safe, especially in rehearsals. We always checked in with each other and treated it like a dance rehearsal, like choreography.”
“It’s pretty silly, really, and we have some hilarious moments, but it makes it less awkward,” said Bailey.
Honestly, I can only imagine how hilarious it is behind the scenes of these steamy scenes, and I’m just glad everyone is having a good time!
