It really s***s when you don’t notice your bills going up and are instead faced with the new prices. In a post on the subreddit r/verizon, one user pointed out that the fees for the US cell provider have increased.
Verizon is the biggest cell provider in the United States with 156 Million customers, and many of them are upset at the sudden increased rate on their bills.
A Redditor shared their discovery
On the subreddit made by customers of Verizon to share their questions and experiences, a user wrote a post that read, “I just looked at my current bill, and was met with a note that the Verizon fee is going up again.”
The charge has gone up by 20 cents
Verizon’s bill charges have increased from $3.30 per voice line and $1.40 per data line to $3.50 per voice line and $1.60 per data line. That is a $0.20 increase per line.
These are fees which are typically taken by the company for administrative purposes.
The ‘Verizon fee’ is an administrative one
The monthly fee frustrating Verizon customers is officially called the ‘Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge’ which the company website states is charged to cover things like operations, property taxes, and network leases.
Upset customers argue that these fees are often hidden in the bill, making it feel like “greed.”
Many argue that it puts company costs on the customers
Critics of the fee argue that the hidden fees put the responsibility of covering company costs on the customers in ways that could sometimes feel deceiving as the fees are not included in the standard plan pricing.
The upset Redditor wrote, “It’s the fee Verizon charges for the cost of doing business with them.”
The poster thinks the fees are unfair
In a comment explaining what the ‘Verizon fee’ is, the user claimed, “They obfuscate it by calling it the Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge but it basically pays for their property taxes and other costs of doing business.”
They added, “Think of it like buying something at Target and they charge a fee at the end for electricity.”
Others also found the fees to be unethical
Other users agreed with the poster on the fees being unfair, with one person asking, “How do they not ban this practice? I smell government action on this.”
Another also commented on the fee being unethical, writing, “The greed is insane.”
Verizon confirmed the rise in prices
The price didn’t just hike up on one customer’s bill, Verizon confirmed the increase in their fees in a statement to the DailyMail.
A company spokesperson confirmed the rise in prices per line but added that home internet services will not be affected by the price increase.
The Verizon spokesperson confirmed the increase
“Starting December 18, the monthly Verizon wireless Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge will increase by $0.20 per line for mobile voice (basic phones, Second Number, smartphones, etc.) and data-only (hotspots, tablets, etc.) products. Verizon Home Internet services are not affected,” the spokesperson stated.
Customers can review their cell plans
The Verizon spokesperson says that customers can change their plan with the cell provider at any time if they feel the need to.
Verizon’s website also explains that the fees “helps defray and recover certain direct and indirect costs we or our agents incur.”
This isn’t the first price hike at Verizon this year
The cell provider company has also hiked up the prices for their ‘5G Start’, ‘5G Play More’, ‘5G Get More’ and ‘5G Do More’ unlimited mobile plans by $4 earlier this year.
It’s safe to say many customers are upset at the recent increased numbers on their monthly bills.
