Looks like we won’t see Ben Affleck answering the Bat Signal ever again.
Ben Affleck’s Batman days are over

The Oscar winner first wore the cape of the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice back in 2016, then showed up again in Justice League (2017) and The Flash (2023). But that’s it—no more Batman for him.
In a new interview, Affleck didn’t hold back, calling the whole thing an “excruciating experience.”
He said playing Batman was straight-up miserable

The actor didn’t sugarcoat it, saying that playing Batman was an “excruciating experience.”
Back in 2022, he already told the Los Angeles Times it was “awful” and “the worst experience.” Now, in a new chat with GQ, he doubled down, saying, “There are a number of reasons why that was a really excruciating experience. And they don’t all have to do with the simple dynamic of, say, being in a superhero movie or whatever.”
Affleck isn’t just blaming Hollywood for his rough time as Batman

Talking about everything that went wrong, he said, “A lot of it was misalignment of agendas, understandings, expectations. And also, by the way, I wasn’t bringing anything particularly wonderful to that equation at the time, either. I had my own failings, significant failings, in that process and at that time.”
He was going through personal struggles during filming

Turns out, it wasn’t just the Batman role that made things rough—the Batman star was going through some serious personal struggles at the time.
Back in 2014, while filming Batman v Superman, his 10-year marriage to Jennifer Garner was falling apart. By June 2015, they officially announced their separation. On top of that, Affleck was battling alcohol issues.
But now he has his own production company to avoid past mistakes

He said that’s exactly why he co-founded his production company, Artists Equity—to make sure he never goes through something like his Batman experience again.
“I want to put together partnerships and filmmakers and cast and a studio apparatus that’s aligned, where precisely that kind of misalignment doesn’t happen and you have a much better work experience,” he explained.
Now Robert Pattinson has his own Batman worries
Looks like Ben Affleck isn’t the only one with Batman concerns—Robert Pattinson is worried about aging out of the role before he even gets to suit up again.
The sequel to The Batman (2022), directed by Matt Reeves, has been delayed a lot. It was first set for October 2025, but according to Collider, it got pushed back and is now aiming for October 1, 2027.
Pattinson joked: “I’m 38, I’m old.”
When Hero magazine asked him earlier this month if he’ll be playing Batman again soon, he didn’t hold back: “I f–king hope so. I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f–king old Batman by the sequel.”
Affleck also opened up about his divorce from Jennifer Lopez
Ben Affleck’s GQ interview wasn’t just about Batman—he also got real about his split from Jennifer Lopez. Talking about their marriage, he admitted they just had different “temperaments.”
Affleck and Lopez tied the knot in 2022, but by 2024—on the exact two-year anniversary of their second wedding ceremony—she filed for divorce. Turns out, they had already settled everything back in January.
