Sometimes in life it can be easy to get lost in the monotony of day-to-day life. It can be hard to see the opportunities in the world around you on your daily walk to work or just hanging out in your own backyard. But if you ever need help seeing the beauty in every day life, there’s nowhere better to turn than the artists who use the streets as their canvas, just like Johan Karlgen.
Johan uses pixel art to bring a little bit of cartoon fun into the real world.
Like in this example, where he’s created a little garden for Mario to tend to and grow his fire flowers, using just a bike rack as inspiration. All of Johan’s art is real and 3D, just designed to look like the flat, 8bit pixel art of the original source.
Someone call Homer!
When it comes to inspiration, Johan can find it anywhere. “Anything that makes me feel something,” he said to BoredPanda. “It could be anything from childhood memories to politics or people doing awesome stuff that I wanna interpret.”
A true man of steel.
“I don’t really choose what to create. My work is sprung from playing, and I’ll try to go with the ideas that come up in my head,” Johan said.
It’s an incredible way to look at the world around you!
We just can’t get enough of this cool and retro street art.
