I AM calm! ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ director Anne Fletcher has opened up about the plot of the new film.
As summer begins to draw to a close and the weather gets cooler, darker, and rainier, it can only mean one thing (well, one IMPORTANT thing, anyway): the approach of Halloween. There’s a lot to love about Halloween (hello, cheap candy, anyone?) but one of the best things about the holiday is that it finally becomes seasonally appropriate to make the Hocus Pocus movie our entire personality again. And soon enough, we’ll be able to do that to the sequel, which premieres on September 30th on Disney+.

It’s the perfect amount of funny, charming, and a little bit spooky to make for the perfect Halloween experience, and The Sanderson Sisters have become iconic in the world of witchcraft and wizardry.
With the sequel fast approaching, director Anne Fletcher has shared some juicy plot details.
The movie is going to give us a little backstory on our favorite witches.
Fletcher tells EW that the film begins with a flashback to 1600s New England with child-versions of our beloved Sanderson sisters.
“The opening sequence of the movie, we get some history of our witches and Billy. We get a little kiss — pardon the pun — of the Billy aspect of it and the world that they lived in and what happened to the witches.”
“I always missed that in the first one. Like, what are the witches the way they are?”
“I did have that question, and the script came, and I loved the opening 1600s. I pushed that a little bit more, because I really wanted to point at, ever so slightly…. the idea that the 1600s and the now are the same. There’s no difference. I just want to poke at the irony of it,” she says .
“But, in the joy of the film you get to see the young version of them and have a great time and understand the what and why of what happened to them.”
“At the end of the day, the movie is about sisterhood, it’s about sticking together through thick and thin, and being there for one another.”
How excited are you?! September 30th cannot get here fast enough!
